Guys,
After my success installing the US iPod adapter, I decided to give the Galant nose guard (car bra) a try. I used the Diamante version on my 2002 Verada for years though this bra was built to fit the US model built in Adelaide. I was able to use parts from the Diamante bottom section to add to the Galant bra to make it fit very tightly (see the pics).
As the Galant had the centre section in the grille and points for fixing the flaps under the grille sections via tabs, I had to find a fix for this. I removed all the fabric tabs filled with pliable plastic and inserted a double layer of polyester fly screen, with some strengthening along the top edge to allow the fixing of a fastener to hold it in place for a tight fit. I am thinking of doing the same for the bottom air intake as it will keep the bugs out at the same time. The current solution with the elastic and hook tabs is a little too short and the full enclosure will cover the whole painted panel area.
All in all this should be a good fit for when I travel in the country. My Verada bra saw good use from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast (more than once), around Tassie, along the Great Ocean Road, through the Barrossa Valley, Mildura and back to Sydney. Never a scratch was seen.
I picked up the Galant bra for US$104 off eBay with a decent boot apron for the Galant as well for US$15. The boot apron they sell in Oz is a crap one size fits all (seen the same thing being sold with Nissan, Holden and Ford logos as well) that doesn't cover the full length of the apron and that doesn't fit well either. The US version has clips that attach to the bottom of the inside of the rear panel and is made of heavy vinyl with flock backing and a counterweight on the end to hold it down. Cheers...
