Yeah lots of weight in the boot :( subboxes amps subs deadening glass crossovers / processors

Sitting on lows all round. Wouldn't want to go any lower with the front bar, I can only just make it into my driveway now.

Thanks for the comments - feels like a new car now. :D

Yeh i'm with science, i know functionality wise they are in a good spot, but don't you worry about people kicking them, i mean accidentally of course. I know if i was you and i'd put so much money into my system, i wouldn't want peoples feet hitting the speakers. Do you plan on making an enclosure/guard for them?

Those speakers look ****ing stupid.
Coming from you who thinks holden is superior quality because they are RWD :P. They may look stupid, but they'll sound 100x better than any sound system on here.

System is definetly a work in progress (you can tell by the raw mdf), but as for legroom; I have size 13 feet and no problems with driving whatsoever. Neither does anyone else who has driven it. There are grilles on the lower midranges and the tweeters are protected by the MTM array the higher mids are out of harms way anyway. They are currently running free air, but there is a fibreglass backing that the mdf is mounted to , so just waiting for me to get off my butt and enlcose it all. (have to get angles right before I do this)

My car is for me, and on the odd occasion that I have a passenger they are well aware of everything in the car, so no problems there.

If you look at your cars you will notice the kick panels have been removed on mine so there is still a lot of space there. But it sounds good - everything is securely mounted and that is first and foremost for my car. I don't really care if anyone thinks it looks ridiculous, my system is for my ears and was never meant to be showy. I have changed the setup about 10 times in the last 2 years so it doesnt stay the same for very long.

Answering a few more questions,

Front bar cost $500? or $550? unpainted (was a while ago). And compared to a lot of other aftermarket bars these are basically a perfect fit which didnt need a lot of work to get it on the car. (There are an extra two mounts to the base of the bar to make it a bit sturdier, but most people dont do this.)

Yep paras would set it off nicely but I cant justify spending ~$400 on them at this stage. If I find a cheap cheap set then it will be a different story. :)

Letterbox grille was done By Phatt Audio and is probably cheaper to do yourself, I asked them how much for just a letter box grille on its own (colour coded/meshed) and it was around $400-$500, but after saying that they did a great job on it and its still structurally sound and uses all the oem clips.

Towbar will be off soon - takes around 10 minutes to get all the wiring and bar off.
And thinking about debadging it soon. There are a few other small things that need attention on there but Im pretty happy with it overall.

Peace

Tim

s_tim_ulate

I have one hand on the wheel and one hand on the remote everywhere I drive. I would say I use it all the time.

Also have a bunch of remotes floating around the car for portable dvd player, ipod, cd stacker etc.

Wish there was an easy way of mounting a steering wheel remote though, but all the oem styles cost around $400 to integrate.

i never use my remote, i just find its something that gets in the way a lot, however when im at a party with my mate and ppl want some music to dance to or something we open his boot and use his remote. But he has a head unit in his boot along with a sub, 6" splits and a pair of 6x9's...i do think its stupid having so many speakers in such a small area, but still thats what i use a remote for.

Oh and i always use the switches on the head unit because my hands normally on the gear stick anyway (manual) so its just stretchin an extra finger out instead of playin around with a remote.

Beleive me I take a lot of pride in my gear and have spent a fortune on the midranges and tweets alone (I have two of the first pairs of those mids in Oz direct from Scott Buwulda an SQ champ in the states and I believe Im the only person to have an MTM array in a car) I have taken precautions to ensure the lower mids and tweets dont get damaged and the install is still a work in progress. You can kick the lower mid all you want, it has a fitted grille over it. The tweet is behind 12 mm of mdf and the top mid is well out of harms way... In addition my car gets judged at every competition on safety (I am also a safety judge) and I've gotten full points each comp. There are many more 'excessive' aspects of my audio besides my midranges.

Anyway back on topic. I live and breathe music and audio. I have my car primarily for music. Everything else is just a bonus. Main reason I got the kit was because the car is at so many audio shows. You don't share the same passion so I dont expect you to understand.

Peace

Really liking the kit, good stuff. But can I make a suggestion? This is frequent practice on WRX's and Ford FPV's which is to paint the lower lip black. I think it looks great.

05-02-2007, 03:38 PM
Hey thanks, yes I had already thought about that idea after Asylums photoshop a while back. Actually went into the workshop with this in mind. But eventually we decided that it made the front look too much like it had a hole in it. It's still possible though. It also looks much better on 97Altera's car as he has the sideskirts to match, but with mine the sideskirts cant continue the black strip theme along them.

There was also the problem with stone chips which would show more than they would against the kashmir...

tks for the chop - does look good still so might be on the cards for the future if i get bored with it.

I've been in Pro Street for a season now so not allowed back into amateur unfortunately. Although I'd love to... Yes the kit will help out on the show side of things, but I am nowhere near competitive enough to take on pro show, these guys are ridiculous, and have too much money to throw at it. Whilst i see the appeal its just too much focus on show and not enough on sound.

lol XT25 dummies... choice!

Ahh yes, a few people are on the hunt for them actually, I love the rear pods esp and the lines (or lack of lines) on the TH bumper compared to the TF bumper.

well we'd all like some esotars wouldnt we but i cant justify that much on just tweeters.... YET  ... your right with the pro show etc... its a sound quality competition, how does the irrodesant pink 2pac finish on your sub encloseur effect the sound! but i guess it does add a few new dimensions to the growing sport so yeh, if you got the money its all good

Just a q about your audio, I have noticed you have tweats at the top and the other speakers at the kick panels, wear else do you have speakers ?

Morel MT22 Ambient tweets at the a-pillars only playing the highest of highs >10kHz at about 1/4 the power of the main tweets

2 pairs of 3" midranges in the MTM arrays (Hybrid Audio Legatias)

Morel Supremos Tweeters in the MTM array (usually on a 4" faceplate but modified to fit them in)

9" Morel Elates in the front doors (stock location mounted to MDF behind stock trims)

2 x 12" Phoenix Gold XMAX subwoofers in the boot in a sealed box.

No rear speakers, an amp channel for each driver (midranges running in series). 2 x 4 channel amps and 1 x big 2 channel for the subs

Goes alright...
