My rada has currently got the Sports exhaust on it which takes the engine specs up to 163kw, this is mainly due to the 2.5in pipe and hi flow cat, redback uses the same idea but would it have much if any gain on performance over the stocky mitsu one? because if its just a sound difference i think i would be better off doing some more beneficial mods and getting the exhaust later.
cheers
Its mainly sound.
Also the redback uses mandrel bends whereas the stock mitsu is press bent.

umm.. i'm pretty damn sure the stock mitsu system is mandrel bent. I've been under my car many a time and it sure doesn't look press bent to me!

I was under the impression it was 2.5" press bent and went to as little as 2.3-2.4" in the bends.

hmmm now that thats sorted, is it possible to fit the redback muffler onto the stocky and still produce the sound? as they are virtually the same except the amount of desonators in it.
Standard 3.5L exhaust is about 60mm which is about 2.4". It gets smaller in the bends and also varies along its length. I measured it with a set of calipers :P So no its not mandrel, but its still very good for stock exhaust piping.
The 'sports' mitsu exhaust is the same exhaust, with the very restrictive tri-flow muffler removed and a straight through muffler in its place, thats all.
Any muffler can be put on, and unless its exactly the same design, the sound will be different. My guess is that the redback muffler will be a bit louder and offer NO performance improvement.
Replacing all the piping may offer a lil bit of performance, but not much (if any at all).

Just replacing the muffler you won't get the same sound as a full redback system because they replace the middle muffler/resonator as well. I'm not sure if you notice any real difference between the mufflers, maybe a little louder on WOT.

I put a catback sytem on my Sports and although a little bit nice sounding note hardly noticed any difference in performance...and on the 1/4 mile ran a 15.3 before and after having the exhaust.
Sounds good with cams but:badgrin:
