so I put my car in to be certified this morning (for the brakes and supercharger). after I dropped it off, I thought about the wheels (because I have to have it inspected, I thought they might be iffy), so I called when I got to work and asked about including the wheels in the certification. I was informed that it would be an extra $275 (the original quote was $570), so I said I'll take my chances, and if they need certifying, I'll do it later.
just got off the phone with the engineer 30 minutes ago.
everything's fine with the emissions and handling etc... however he had to check out my wheels anyway and found them to be right on the limits (i.e. track changed by 25mm but the OD only changed by 2mm). I hope he's not planning on charging me for it!!
anyway, the big issue is the exhaust is now 94dB under load and spikes to 97dB when you back it off. I have called my exhaust guy and I'm taking it to him this arvo to see what he can do. he did mention when I originally installed the exhaust that if it's too loud he'll fix it.
also called the RTA to book in for an emissions test (apparently ACT MVR don't have an emissions tester, but they require you to have it tested  ). anyway, booked into the Botany RTA emissions testing facility for the 14th Feb. fortunately it's free of charge, although I'll have to take a day off work to get there and back.
on a side note, had a bit of fun with a VX commie on the way to the workshop this morning... I think he was very surprised to see me sticking with him after he put the boot in  I'm pretty sure it was a gen III and he had a Gentech sticker on the window, so I was happy!!!
cheers,

Exhaust loudness isn't measured under load though si it? I thought they just stick it in N and rev to a certain rpm?

Wow......sucks to live in Canberra.
I paid $110 to get my mods certified, and the brakes weren't even a consideration.

Yeh, i think it's measured by reving it 1/3 of the cars redline.... as in magna redline at 6 so they rev it to 2grand.

It wouldn't be that low, 2 grand is nearly idle lol, maybe 2/3, from memory it was about 3.9/4k can't remember exactly.

in victoria i had to get tested, they pull out the book and look up your model for the testing rpm and i's done in N no load at xxx rpm mine being a TK magna WTF???? lol was tested at 3000rpm and made 91db under load it was way over 100db lol
my dual system tested at 84db with straight through mufflers on it, i have chambered on it now and it should be lower than that, but when you gas it it's damn loud.....
there is a trick too usually the higher it's revd the louder it gets and 200rpm can put you over the limit, so just pull off the needle on the tacho and set it lower :bowrofl:

Hahaha "Your car idals at 100 rpm" lol, off topic but ok what is the wheel size limit for A.C.T is it same as NSW?

UPDATE:
he did charge me for certifying the wheels, but not the full amount. ended up paying about $750 (so about $100 off the quote).
went to see my exhaust guy. he's going to put in a muffler to replace the resonator and hopefully that will quieten it down enough to pass the inspection. in testing I believe they rev it up to 3000rpm (in neutral) and test from about 45cm behind the car (not shoved up the exhaust!!).
the wheels were absolutely within the diameter difference allowed (only 2mm off on the OD), the reason they needed to be certified was the change in track. the first time he measured the track it was 26mm out, then he measured it again and it was 25mm.
I'm fairly sure the rules in ACT about wheels sizes are the same as NSW. which means you can go to any size so long as the original diameter (tyre and wheel) isn't changed by more than +/- 15mm. with width you can go up 1 inch from the largest optional rims specified for your model. so if your car came with 15"x6" rims with 205/65r15 tyres (standard 3rd gen) you can go 18"x7" with 225/40r18 without needing any kind of certification. I have 18x8, and 235/40r18, which are too wide, and which changed the track enough to be a concern.

I needed my brakes looked at because of the upgrade I did. if they were stock, I wouldn't have needed them looked at.
and yeah, it sucks to live in Canberra... bureaucrats everywhere and all of them have their hand out for fees.
for example, the NSW RTA emissions inspection: free
the ACT MVR inspection: $37

But then again you get roads that have been resurfaced in the last century.

most of them are not bad... but some roads in the ACT are starting to deteriorate. the problem is our government is broke from multiple legal problems over the last 5 years (the bushfire inquest and the Gungahlin Dr extension for example). there are several arterial roads with out of control potholes.

Atleast it is only several, not lots or most...

UPDATE:
exhaust guy has now put in two extra resonators (for a total of three!) and he says it's quiet enough to pass rego inspection (<90dB @ 3000 RPM). as a benefit, the drone in the cabin is reduced also. it never really bothered me that much, but it was noticeably worse after the Sprintex kit went on.
tomorrow it's off to Botany to get the RTA emissions test done, and then back to the engineer to get the paperwork. then I have to book in to take it over the pits. hopefully that's the last crap I have to deal with for a while.

UPDATE:
just got back from the MVR in Dickson. I put my stock tail lights back on (just in case) but had the tinted ones with me. they inspected and tested the tinted ones and said they were fine, so they're going back on tonight.
the inspection only lasted about 10 minutes. all they did was go through the engineers report, pop the bonnet, check the rims and sent me on my way. they asked about the exhaust and I pointed them to the report. they did say that it should have only been tested at 3300 rpm (not 3750 as it says in the report) but they didn't retest it.
all they really wanted to know was how much it cost, what sort of power and torque it put out, etc...
and to top it off, they didn't charge me for the inspection.
so my car is now verified 100% legal and certified. woot!

So in total cost, what came out of ya pocket??.... As with the exhaust, QLDers report states to take the car to 2/3 of redline (6000redline, take it too 4000rpms)... anyways in the next few months Ill be needing to certify certain things, hence why im askin bout total costs

I know it's different state to state, so I'm not sure my numbers will help you, but...
it was $750 to get wheels (18x8s), front brakes (upgraded 320mm rotors and twin pot PBR calipers), supercharger, and exhaust all certified. I had to spend a bit more on the exhaust to get it below 90dB.
Black Beard said he got his twin turbo setup certified for about $100 in QLD.
all up, it's cost me 5 figures to get the car in the state it's in now, with the majority of it coming in the last 3 months.
