nice to be back online everyone!! :D

i have been reading the thread about de trying to install his HU but i still am puzzled. sorry for being a total noob but as most of u suggest, I DUN WANNA PAY FOR INSTALLATION!!!! i just have this question for now:

since some suggested a loom to loom adapter:
(a) will it work for the pioneer deh-p5550mp HU?
(b) if so, is it convenient to use this if i am just going to replace my stock speakers only (i.e. no subs, amps)??

Not to sure about the loom.

But try it with the stock speakers...they r quiet good!

But id reccomend getting new ones. 6.5" speakers will bolt into the front and 6x9 will bolt strait into the rear.
If you wanna keep it all pioneer go bullet splits up front (approx $450) and a 3way 6x9 should be good(170-200)

if your in syd i say goto doran pro audio...always will give u alot of info and great deals!

The back of your aftermarket stereo just has a bunch of wires ready to be soldered into your existing car wiring.. Your user manual will tell you which wire is which.. The problem comes when you have to wire it up to your existing wiring... In order to wire it up properly, you'll have to cut off the existing plug that was on your stock stereo (your stock stereo had a bunch of wires connected to a harness, the harness clips onto the stock harness and that was the end of it)... I really do not recommend doing this...

So you can pick up a harness that will clip onto your stock harness... Think of it as converting the harness to just a bunch of loose wires.. Then you can solder your loose bunch of wires from your aftermarket unit onto your aftermarket harness, then connect the harness up to the stock harness... The good thing about this is that you can later connect your old stereo back up if you want to sell your car, as you haven't chopped up the wiring..

Stock Stereo -> Loose wires -> Stock stereo harness -> Stock harness -> wires -> electrical system, speakers, etc..

After Market Stereo -> Loose wires -> Problem...
or
After Market Stereo -> Loose wires -> Chopped up stock stereo harness -> stock harness -> wires -> electrical system, etc..
Bad..

so..

After Market Stereo -> Loose wires -> Aftermarket harness -> Stock harness -> wires -> electrical system, speakers, etc...

With the speakers, just put them into the stock locations and use the stock wiring... It'll all be connected and shouldn't be much of a problem to use the stock speaker wiring (but if you're dead serious about car audio, you'd probably get around to changing it one day)

Anyway, hope it helps... No question is too dumb.. =P

It's just meant to clip onto your stock electrical harness, so in terms of functionality, it's identical... You will have to solder or use connectors to connect the aftermarket harness to the bunch of loose wires at the back of your unit...

AeroPro make harnesses for Mitsubishi vehicles I believe.. Give me a few minutes and I'll try find the link somewhere...

Sorry, it was AerPro (Go figure...)

http://www.aerpro.com.au/cgi-bin/product.cgi?pcode=AP7011

Note that it's for late model Magnas... as far as I know, that's 96 TE onwards...

Each wire will be labeled, then it's just a matter of soldering wires from the back of the headunit to the harness...

As for where to buy them, there's a link on their website for their dealers.. There's one in Syd, (SHOP 30 IMPERIAL ARC SYDNEY NSW, 0292337611), but I dunno what's closest to you.. Go have a look..

Hope it helps =)

It doesnt void the warranty.

Its all about the $$ factor.. Trying to suck you in to get more $$ out of you..

it wont void your 'factory warrenty' (eg. pioneer)
but you wont have a installation warrenty...not much to worry bout

Ahaha... just helping out wherever I can....

I think I'm more interested in car audio than the mechanics... (doesn't exactly help getting a carbon fibre bonnet, etc, when you're adding a few extra kgs of stereo components! =P )
