Hi guys and gals... zap here with my first post... :D
Firstly I wish to say that this is a great forum for Mitsi enthusiasts and have enjoyed reading the contents. Looking forward to maybe meeting some of you on a cruise or other club event. Mitsis are definately the best made and designed car on the road and that is not just bias, but I am involved in the automotive industry in Adelaide and have seen it first hand. I would never buy a Common-Door or a Fowl-Can!

I've had my Verada for about 8 years now and I am soooo very happy with it.
It has been so reliable until recently when the Starter Motor went ($330 later it's fine) and my windscreen washer pump went.

Have any of you had problems with Wreckers? In particular one which "could be" somewhere near a dump... and possibly near a street sign that resembles the word "south"???

I went to a certain not mentioned wrecker and asked for a washer pump ($10 over the phone was the quote). While I was there I asked if they had any scuff plates for my boot (expecting to pay about $10). The guy went out the back and about 5 minutes later came back with a scruffy, beaten up scuff plate and a pump. I asked him for a price for the plate and the response was $50 and he was saving me money because a new one is $99!!! I said don't worry about it mate I'll just take the washer pump and he then tried to charge me $20! I said you quoted me $10 and pulled out my credit card but he just "Spat the dummy  " told me that I was wasting his time as credit cards cost him for the transaction etc etc but it clearly stated that Credit card transactions were charged an extra 4% which I was happy to pay! I was absolutely shocked at the guys customer service  and will never go there again. Can anyone suggest a decent wrecker or an alternative to a $35 P&A part??

Cheers!

Hi, welcome to the club.

First off we should not condemn other brand of cars here (Not that you are). For your information one of our moderators drives a Ford. Many cars are just as great one may prefer Holden or Honda etc...
Yes Magnas, Veradas have their strength and weaknesses. Sit back and enjoy any quries u need.

Ok to the point of Wreckers. they can be bad. BUT I would never want to piss them off in their faces. Look , to them credit card services are a pain in the ass, I know many small shops will not want to accept credit card charges over anything less than $50.00
I agree with you is their bad service but hey get prepared like at least $100.00 cash next time you go such places. They hate cards. As for getting an arguement in front of them? Ask yourself this, next time you really need a part and there is no other place where do you go?

Try to keep it cool, they can be bad, but you find that you do need them sometimes. My wreckers here dont give cheap parts sometimes as they refuse to seperate them. however they gave great advice on getting parts from dealers instead as it will be cheaper. Share your disappointment with your friends, us etc... lol but dont show your anger to them you wont get anywhere really.

Hey Nexus! Thanks for the advice... I understand what you're saying, but I really dont believe I did anything to piss him off... That was why I was so shocked at the response! Thinking about it now... I heard a radio in the background with horse racing going on so maybe I just got him after he lost a few bills on the neddies lol !

I'm going to go to Supercheap and buy a pump from them. They have been pretty good with parts/tools etc for me recently.

Yeah you know these people. lol Its just your luck maybe, but yeah we still need them anyhow so I will not really want to cross them out of the list. Saw a 380 in the profile too is that your family's? or yours? lol

No it's not mine but by crikey I wish it was! It's actually a neighbours VRX. Beautiful car. It was parked next to mine last night and I though it would be a cool contrast between the "old and the new" for my profile. Thinking that the next car I will get will be black... especially after checking out that "4MYEGO" ride... There's a black TJ VRX for sale at Portside Mitsubishi that would be nice. It's done a few too many kms though for a 2001 (175000 kms) however the price is good at 14K. I've always liked that range of Magna... especially the VRX!

Nice play on words :doubt: I would buy a "Fowl-Can" because they are a nice, powerful car, unlike our 'awesome' second gens :bowrofl: Nah.. I love my car. As Nexus said, don't bag other car manufacturers, that's Ford Forum Australia's job lol

Welcome to the club mate, don't forget your search feature :)

Ah, and on topic, I've never really had a problem with wreckers in my area, most are down to earth guys, generous etc... bit rough around the edges but you gotta love 'em *pinches their work hardened cheeks* Some people are just bastards, just move your business to another wrecker and let them profit from your desire to modify lol

The guys at Mitsibits in Lonsdale are good guys, as are the guys at Eddy Wreckers in Edwardstown. $50 for a piece of scuffed plastic? $10 for the part and $40 for removing from the vehicle lol. Wonder how much U-Pull_it would charge you?

Wreckers are the biggest rip off's on this planet. WOW big deal credit cards cost them money. Its not like they loose out on anything they sell.

They buy these wrecks for like $50 - $400 tops and they can easily make a couple of grand of each car.

True, true thats one way of putting it, but hey as a wrecker you take the risk of that junk not being sold for months! some parts maybe nobody every wants. So thats why they charge for a price not too high as the dealers but still within the wanting range.

I mean hey there is a KE verada out for wrecking for $1000.00 this week, I cant possibly want to take the risk of paying it and getting the lights, interior etc.... Is a lot of work involved too.

Thanks for your advice guys... I'm in the western suburbs but do get around a bit. I'll check out the wreckers you have suggested and hopefully won't experience the same thing again.

I agree with you Gemini... I wrote off a Torana about 20 years ago (T-boned by a truck... OUCH!) and got $500 for the wreck! Inside was a Genie exhaust system, Strombergs, Hot Engine, Big AV system (At the time) which alone they would have got $1000 for... It's injustice!

I have heard that you can buy wiper water pumps from the likes of Supercheap and Repco etc. Has anyone used one and how easy was it to do? I imagine that it wouldn't be a direct swap over (standardisation is a thing not often done in the industry  !!). I'm going down there today to have a look and will let you know... If you are interested...:D

Just buy a cheap wreck yourself than you got all the parts you need.I did this a few times after I found out how much wreckers want for parts.I needed a v6 motor for a TS and the price was from $700 to $1100 that's without gearbox with over 220.000Km's from a wrecker.I found a 1995 TS V6 manual with 207,000Km's with full service history that was pranged for $600 which had a lot of good parts etc cv joints, gearbox.

Final in the episode!
I just went and bought a brand new replacement for $17 from Supercheap... stuff buying one from a wrecker! The replacement one was EXACTLY the same as the old one. It took less than 5 minutes to replace it and now it's fine and dandy!!! Be mindful though guys because half way through the TS/KS range they changed the design of the motor. Pre July 94 was one and post July 94 was another. Just check your VIN before you walk in.

Cheers
