hey guys, well i think my engine has almost died in the ass....It smokes more than my chain smoking father.....But what i wanted to know is, i have the 2.6ltr 8valve engine, and i heard somewhere that there is a japanise spec twin cam 16valve one that will fit straight in...now i might not be right about this engine so this is where i have come to get the best answer. All i am looking for is a "straight" swap, maybe a beefier engine, and I AM NOT looking to go a V6, way to hard, and i have a project lancer that i am swapping the 1.5sohc carby, to a 4g63t.....and thats been a headache for nearly a year now, so a straigh swap will be the best wag to go for me at the moment, and advice will go a long way, i am in west sydney and a place to get an engine from will help a great deal too :) well guys and girls thanks for your time.

Uhh.. Killbilly and Gotrice did DOHC 6G74 V6 conversions. Sogg did a 4G63BT on a first gen.

A 4G63BT in a 2nd gen would be pretty cool, and it wasn't that hard to do in the first gen, just a hybrid clutch/flywheel assembly (and the intercooler plumbing, loom, etc) perhaps toss the lancer and use the magna!

From what I understand the only DOHC head is from the starion 2.6L astron, but thats a wide block and it doesnt bolt straight on like you can with the V6. Not to say it couldn't be done but it would be very hard. If your going to be switching engines the easiest bet would be to go straight for the V6.

You may be able to find a DOHC 16V astron head, but if you do, go and buy a lottery ticket as they're rare as hens teeth :(. HKS made only 10 of them and as far as I can tell only a few are still in known existance.

I've been mulling over an idea in my head thinking it may be possible to make one using the valves, valve springs, rockers and pistons from the DOHC 6G72 as they share the same bore. You could then model up the combustion chamber from the same head as well, making sure that the compression ratio doesn't go through the roof.

Getting the timing would be fun though as you would have to either find run two cam gears and find a longer timing chain, or run the original cam gear and then run gears to the cam shafts.

The head would then have to be cnc'd or cast, depends on how many people were keen for it and custom cam shafts made up. I also figured that since there's so much custom gear I'd prolly also make it MIVEC as well lol.
