Hi,
Over the past year I have had a rattling in the front left strut. This was supposedly first fixed when mitsubishi replaced the front left strut. I then put adjustable koni's in there and the noise persisted along with various wheel alignment difficulties. I just had the strut top bearing replaced and its gone, silent and smooth. To say I'm happy is an understatement, so to all those with incurable noisy suspension it pays to have a look at the strut top bearing.

greenmatt; I own a 98 modle and have a front end rattle over ripply and bumpy road. Sounds like an old HQ holden with rattly brake calipers. Is this what yours sounded like?

thats the one. Over small bumps it rattled a fair bit.
Hypermagna: I noticed it most in carparks, it creak/groans as you turn slowly.

Until recently you could not jsut buy the bearing as far as I know, I have always purchased the complete top.

Creaking can be bushes, can also be the top bearing if it is dry.

I was told by a suspension bloke that you wont be able to fix it... He thinks it is in the K frame where it bolts to the car via rubber bushes. The bushes get soft over time and develop a lot more "give" than they once had. This is where the noise is coming from. He also went on to tell me that he has heard it in brand new cars as well.... As far back as TR... You could replace the rubber with nolothane but it will ride harsher and transmit more noise but that still might not actually fix the problem....

Quite right, it was the whole top including the rubber. It was about $110.
