if you haven't guessed i just bought a 98 alterra, its a TF right, well i ran it to the empty mark on the gauge the other day, put over 55ltr in it, but i never seen the fuel light come on, do all models have them,
also a tried testing the car by the hand book and the factory alarm didn't sound, should the alterra have it or would it have been an option?

All 3rd Gens have an immobiliser but as for an alarm I'm not sure.

I looked to see the cars original specifications but an alarm was not listed.

However, the fuel light was and I am sure all 3rd gen Magna's have the low fuel light.

Perhaps the globe has blown. I'm not sure if the low fuel light is meant to show when you turn the igntion (we have the blacked out dash and I don't think ours lights up... however ours does work as I have seen it on when we had low fuel).

On our Verada if you hold down the lock button on the keyless entry remote the alarm sounds. If not.. sit in the car and lock it.. wait for the security light to go off... unlock the door and open it... I don't know if that works but imagine it would.. use to work in our Calais anyhow.

You say you rang it to empty and only filled in 55 litres? They have a 71 litre tank, 71 - 55
equals 16. It needs to go down to somthing like 10 litres left before the light comes on (
normally, between 50 and 100 kms to go).

The alarm may be an option for the altera. Veradas definitely have them. I guess you tried
testing it as follows:

1. Wind drivers window down.
2. Lock car with either key or remote.
3. Wait for the security light to go (usually 20 seconds).
4. Unlock the door by toggling the lock lever on the inside.

must not have an alarm as i don't have a security light to stop flashing:)
as for the fuel light, the gauge dwelled on empty for so long it wasn't funny. Not sure how much fuel i put in but i know it was more than 55ltr but surly the light would have come on before that.
can someone tell me what its next to in the dash thanx and ill check for a blown bulb.
cheers.

Its not a flashing light, its a rectangular panel with the word sercurity when lit up. As with
the fuel, you may have a stuffed fuel sender unit. The fuel light should be an amber dot
next to the fuel pump symbol on the fuel guage.

Alright, ran the tank down to empty again and found the fuel light next to the speed alert. So you guys recon its good for about another 50Km once its going on and off with hills and acceleration eh?
Would the security light also be next to the speed alert in that panel?

I have a TH Altera LS, came with a factory alarm...

And as for the fuel light when i run it down to the fuel light coming on if i fill it i normally put 65L in... which means you have ages to go before you need to worry if your only putting 55 in ;)

Previous owner must have removed it. Even my old KS v6xi came with a factory alarm and
immoboliser.

Its roughly 10 litres left from when it stays on constantly (not affected by car's attitude).

You need to take a photo of your dash so we can help as Mitsu has changed their dash
alot, especially after TJ1 where they went all digital.
