Hi guys,

The other day I was closing my boot and guess what, the aerial got caught in the TF Sports spoiler and I dragged it down

Thought this is a good opportunity to upgrade to an electric aerial, so went to an electrician. First thing he asked me if I listen to AM, which I do. He said in that case, you need a genuine replacement from Mitsubishi as he has been caught out in replacing non genuine aerials and they do not receive AM very well. He said would need to contact them to get a price.

He called me back and for a genuine Mitsubishi electric aerial including installation he quoted me $600

Help me out here guys, any recommendations in Sydney who I can go to. And yes, i do want to continue listening to AM.

Also, I have an Alpine head unit, I assume it should have the function by which the aerial would go down if I switch to CD / Cassette or turn it off?

Thanks

Yeah TH = $400+, where a TL = $98. I just fitted a TL electric arial to my TH on Sat and it fitted perfectly.
Cheers

Hi Pete,

Did you do the wiring yourself?

Also, if a TL fits TH does that mean it will fit TF as well?

Thanks

Look around at some mitsu spare parts places and get a 2nd hand one. Or goto Repco and buy an Aerpro aerial which would cost around $100. They are really easy to install yourself, and you will save loads of cash :dancin:

Yep.
Ran one wire from HU for the remote signal.
Another one straight to the chassis next to it for GND.
Another one from my distro block for constant 12V. Have to splice this into a factory loom somewhere eventually to tidy it up. Probably from boot switch.

Colours on genuine factory arial:
Green: Remote from HU
Black: GND
Yellow/Red: Constant 12V

2nd hand should be ok... but they aren't THAT expensive, so would be a safer bet buying new.
Also I would go genuine Mitsi rather than Aerpro seeing they are the same price ($100). Ive heard the Aerpro ones don't work real well on AM (if you listen to that) and aren't as reliable. But that's just hear say, I could be wrong.

I dont know about the Aerpro ones for Mitsu much, but I had one on my Celica, and it was fantastic, never had a single problem with it. In fact it gave such good reception that I rarely put it up. But if the Mitsu ones are the same price as the Aerpro then go for Mitsu. Wasn't exactly sure on the price of the Aerpro neither

Sorry for the hijack here.

My anthena does not goes down when I turn to CD or mp3 likewise off radio.
I am using an Aeropro one. So the anthena always stays up whenever my engine or my car is is turn on regardless.

Stereocity which did the install say due to my head unit is Pioneer there is no indicator to bring the anthena down when I off my radio is this TRUE or I am being BS here?

I am a bit shock about this and wonder people can shed some light on this?

This is correct. Pioneer hu's have no electric aerial wire. The electric aerials need to be wired into the remote wire from the hu. This makes the aerial up whenever the hu is on. The only way around this is to put a switch in the line and manually control the aerial.

I've got a pioneer h/u which I installed myself, and Phoenix is correct. It's no big deal though - all that matters is that the aerial goes down when you aren't in the car.

Okay... I live with it then.

Thanks for all the replies guys but can someone confirm that since a TL fits the TH does that mean it will fit TF as well.

Once confirmed I will order it from Mitsubishi and give it a go

Thanks again

I don't see any reason as to why one that fits a TH wouldn't fit a TF. afaik, just about every part is interchangable between TE -> TJ...

:stoopid:

It should fit. If you worried then get Aeropro which is more expensive. $160.00 included installation. (I had no knowledge about audio equipment)

I would go for it as suggested.

Just an update guys.

Got the TL electric aerial from Mitsubishi and it fits perfectly in the TH. Got it professionally installed from Autobarn.

The aerial now goes up only when the radio is on. For cassette, CD and after turning the car off, it goes down by itself :)

Thank you all for your help

Hey was that a stock TL antenna that Mitsi sells for $100?

I bought a genuine accessory that was actually a Eurovox for $160, and now I'm told they don't make those any more ... maybe I should buy one of those to replace it!

Did the antenna come with the black plastic body bezel thing?

I just fitted one, but I'm not sure which bit you are talking about...

The bit I'm talking about is the black spacer (bezel) on all 3rd-gens that sits between the locking screw on the antenna itself and the body.

My Eurovox came with a crappy-looking dome that made my Genuine Mitsubishi Accessory (TM) look like an aftermarket item, so I filed and shaved the original bezel until I could poke the Eurovox through. Looks much nicer, but I would have preferred one that would fit the antenna ...

Hmm you guys have got me thinking about buying a stock TL antenna, now that I have the right wiring loom!

New update, mine just broke down but its been 4 years? So I went back Sterocity and they quoted $120 to replace because I originally bought it from them. Thought it was a bit steep went to Supercheap and guess what? $270 for aeropro!!! for Magna! wtf? I had not have a chance to see how much original is but I think Steropro quoted me a reasonable price.
