ok so yesterday im coming up to a intersection in a 80 zone. now i go to brake for the intersection and the pedal sinks to the floor with a pshhhhhh sound to go with it. oh **** no brakes i thought. so i pump the pedal 3 times and the pedal get firmer with each push till it's firm like normal still with the pshhhh sound but that goes away when the pedal firms up. so i drive carefully home. once home i pop the bonnet to check that the fluilds not low incase i might have a leak. but the fuild at the max mark , so i haven'y lost any fuild, but i take out the torch and look for leaks any way. even put some cardboard underneath on the ground but did'nt find any signs of leaking. next thought was it's probably the pushrod that connects the pedal to the cly. so i get my head under there to see if the rod is bent but that is fine too. so i start the car and give the pedal a few pumps while watching the push rod , it was a bit soft but hardened up with each push till it was firm again. but the pshhhhh noise seems to be coming out the back of the cly. like it was a seal gone inside that was letting air out instead od pushing the fuild through the lines.
so i call a few parts places to see if i can get a rebuild kit but im told that they are not making them any more and that a new master cly is 350 bucks and is down in brisbane and ill take a few days to get hear.

so my question is have any of u guys or gals bought a replacement brake master cly/ or rebulid kit ? if so how much was it cos 350 seems really high to me. or can anyone soruce one or know of someone that sells them cheaper than this?
aslo buffy everything seems to point to the brake cly but is there somthing else that could be doing this that i might have over looked.pretty sure im on the money with the master cly but u might think of something i didn't think of. the cars not with me right now but ive got the next 3 days off to fix it so i thought id pick your brains:D

i replaced my leaking master cyl from a low km TR/TS. works a treat, didn't have to rebuild it and looks brand new anyways.

cost: $30

so does the 4cly tr\ts use the same master cly? no modding needed im guessing just straight bolt up right?

yeah, that's right... for what the car is worth, it's cheaper to replace the master cyl for a known good one rather than buying a new master cyl.

another thing to add to the list. went to the shopping centre parked the tp and pulled the hand brake on. but it was so easy to lift up it was not funny. so i get underneath and the gf pulls and releases the handbrake while i watch. the right side moved as normal but the left side didn't move at all. i tryed to move it by hand but it was very hard to do so. great i thought all i need. so when driving home lucky it was only a km or 2 the squealing starts (hand brake sticking on:rant: ). so ive got a fun day tomorrow. swap the master cly, change fuild, change pads, relube hand brake cable and adjust and make sure it's operating properly, then bleed then and hope nothing else decides to wear out.

on top of all this the cars having small black outs, time for the crc cleaner and the timing chain has started to make a little noise, so i need to do that as well as the oil pump, gaskets and stem seal valves at the same time. gonna be fun the next few weeks.

i made the mistake of saying the other day that i never have any real dramas . so i jinxed myself cos the next day it wouldn't start. oh well u get that with older cars they wear out and need fixing time to time. just kinda felt all at once this week.

When my clutch let go the mechanic relined the clutch slave cylinder, and because it was dodgy, the brake master cylinder as well.

thank you BCX7 the tr\ts 4cly brake master cly worked a treat. and only cost me 20 bucks. i always wondered why i had a spare connection next to the fuse box in the engine bay . turned out that the previous owner must have replaced the master cly at some point but it didn't have the pressure switch on it:nuts: (maybe he was a cheap ass and only got what he could afford instead of the genuine one). but when i replaced it with the tr\ts one it had the switch there, so this mystery connection is for the differential (bsp) brake switch. atleast if the brakes lose pressure now a ight on the dash will come on before i have to find out the hard way, like last time (coming up to a corner doing 80kms and the brake pedal goes straight to the floor, **** no brakes:D ) and it was the master cly not the brake servo
