hi guys,

i just found this forum last week, and have been marvelling at it's majesty since...

i have two questions that i was hoping maybe you guys would be able to help me with...

the first is, on the back of my car (tp 1989) between the two light panels there is a panel of red plastic. i was wondering how to take it off and put it back on again, its broken off at the top and is filled with mud and looks a horrible murky reddy brown but i cant see how to take it off or put it back again.

my second question is about a new sterio, i had heard that to cut any metal in the car you need a certificate of some sort, tho i serached the net to no avail really, i was planning on cutting the 4" holes in the back to put 6x9's in. then i was gunna replace the front 4" and cut out the bit of metal above them to sit them in new board i had cut specially for the job...

just wondering, coz id rather not get pulled up about it later on

thank

:D Hi, the panel between the tail lights is held on with 5 clips & 1 nut. squeeze the clips with pliers and push out. The nut is behind the bootlid catch, may need long 10 mm socket, hope this helps

ive go 6x9's in the back and didn't need to cut a thing. the 6x9 speaker spacers ( what the speaker is mounted to) are a generic type i bought from super cheap made out of black plasic . they are about 5cms high so when the speakers sit in there there high enough for the magnet to clear the factory cutouts that are under the parcel shelf already. undo and remove the high mount brake light and take out the parcel shelf and u'll see tha cut outs i mean. the only thing i had to cut was the partical board parcel shelf it self. put the shelf back in then bolt up some thick spacers and the bolt the speakers to that shouldn't be much of a drama. i aslo took out the 4'' factory ones and replaced them with 6'' . but i didn't put them in the stock place. i tucked them under the dash pointing towards ur feet so the sound would bounce off the floor where ur feet are continuing to you as your sitting in the seat. hope that makes sense. so you can't see them but can hear them. for a cheap set up cd/2x 6'' front and 2x 6x9's rear is does pretty good loudness and quality. good enough anyway. next time i will add a amp/sub and a new cd player but it's enough for me , not really into doof doof where you almost need a headset to talk to your passenger.

You don't need 6x9's for the front, you need a nice set of 6" splits, and nearly all splits should be shallow enough to fit in there without cutting anything.

And even some 6", a few poineer ones in particular are shallow enough to fit without cutting anything.

If you still want 6x9's in the front, you'll either need to cut some of the inards of the door away (not sure about the legalities on doing this) or use some spacers.. and I wouldn't want to do either of these :)

Also - Welcome to the club!

oh yeah, i see what you mean about the rear speakers...
i put the 4" ones in the front anyway, i already had some board id cut to raise them a bit and they seemt o fit fine, just very very fiddley, but they sound pretty good....so nice to fionally be able to hear music in my car again hey, stupid crappy old speakers : )
