Well I finally got my mats from AutoBarn yesterday and I now have a question.....

They seem to be the wrong shape.........I mentioned AWD when I ordered them but the labeling mentions TH-TJ and nothings about KW......

Am I right in the thinking that FWD have a different floor pan and hence the mats won't fit into a AWD variety??

Don't want to pull them apart to find that they won't fit.........Rather have them in the orginal packaging if they need to be exchanged....

cheers

Why do they look the wrong shape? Wrong shape as in size? Even if the floorpans are different i couldn't imagine them being THAT much different for car mats, unless you're talking about moulded mats? Even then there couldn't be a HUGE difference :).

Sure are different. thats why I paid the extra to mitsubishi AWD mats. There is a raised section on the left side, in front of the drivers seat, that is only in the AWD floor plan. the passenger side is no issue.

the floor pan of the AWD is distinctly different from the FWD...mitsubishi engineers had to move the exhuast and the fuel tank to allow the drive shaft to the rear wheels...the change in shape of the exhaust is the reason for the loss of those few kw over the standard =)
dunno if it will affect the shape of the interior floor...

Plus, the rear tunnel is wider and flatter in the AWD. Also, the change in the exhaust is at
the engine end and not at the tail end. The AWD exhaust goes under the rear diff in a
more straight line instead of going over the rear axel.

OK I am going to return my mats tonight and have spoken to Mitsubishi already and ordered from them.......for $20 more I don't think it's worth the hassle of explaining to autobarn that the mats aren't the right ones......and waiting another week to get them and then hoping the are the right ones
