View Full Version : Roof Racks
This is THE perfomance mod. As I wont be having the fins of my board hitting my hand on tight corners.
Anyway - if you have 'em - which brand/type/style did you go for? As I went to Repco - and there's quite a few, and I'd really like to buy a set in the next couple of days. Hopefully tomorrow, so if you have some handy tips for me - please list them.
thank you.

WHATEVER YOU DO...DONT GET CHEAP ONES FROM KMART/TARGET, etc
We had sum for 5 days on our TJ and they wouldnt let the window seal properly while they were on and whilst we were about to overtake a truck at 120+ Kays/hour....the front two pieces came off!!
So once we got back to Syd, we returned them straight away....but thats what you get for $30

if you dont wanna affect the look of your car go to a good 4wd parts place and get a set of inflatable temporary ones. they close into your doors and leave no marks but are very good quality. then when your done you just roll them up and chuck em in your boot and bobs your uncle!

I reckon the stock roofracks look pretty good on the wagons

my dad got some on his brand new TJ Sports, from the factory.
I tried putting them on my TE and it was the most frustrating thing ever.
It seemed like my TE was 2cm WIDER than dads TJ.
So anyway i gave up (got one of my mates to drive to the coast as well), and when i went to put them back on dads car, exactly the same thing i was experienced with my TE. It seems you have attach one side, and then to pull the shit out of the rack to get them on the other side. Feels like its about to snap in half.
SO ANNOYING, still havent done it

that's because the te and some other cars (prob th+ or tj+) need different mounts, thats what we experienced with the KMART ones.
We accidentaly were puttin the roof racks on using the te or wateva mounts instead of the other ones which were suited for our car

this may sound stupid but were you trying to put them on vertically along the car or horizontally across the car?? there are different types and you may have been trying to put them on the wrong way. as far as i remember the factory ones run along then you add cross bars.

yeah any arb dealer should stock some. even most spare parts places should have some sort of temporary rack. just make sure you get the ones that close inside the door, and not tie through the windows. then just dont open the door while your moving!!!
