Hi all.. hopefully ill take delivery of my 96 KF 'rada tomorrow. What i was wondering is, is it possible to get a replacement keyless entry fob or is it all too hard? Do i cruise into Mitsi's or can i go to Jaycar? It has a fob at the moment but it doesn't work so im assuming something is buggered somewhere along the line be it either battery in the remote or something a bit more sinister... so what are my options?

Also the power window surrounds are stuffed i.e. faded and so on so how hard are they to replace and approx how much?

Other than that it checked out ok so hopefully nothing bad is lurking under there somewhere. its got 168 on the clock and drives fairly well. Of course coming from TN SE (and a 92 ford laser) anything is a stepup!

The remote entry cost about $50-60 from Mitsubishi
If they say you need them to program which is bull**** you can do it yourself, then tell them I know how to do it.

Good dealers will do it for you FOC.

Requires you to look at the manual if they provide you with one. Just turning the keys start and off three times where harzard lights flickle and you can press the remote to confirm the program. More details if you do a search on this.

Gee.... thats cheap, and easy... would it be a "in stock" item or specially ordered? Unfortunately no books so who knows whats going on there...

Heres a headrush thought... Do any 'radas come with steering wheel controls for stereos - if so could i put this on the KF and will it work? I would imagine not but thought i would ask anyway...

instructions:
Procedure for replacing the remote control switch battery
1. Remove the screw from the back of the remote control switch and open the switch
2. Remove the discharged battery
3. Install a new battery with its positive side + down.

4. Insert the pawls first. Then taking care not to dislocate the O-ring assemble the switch
5. Check the operation of the switch on the vehicle.

To program the remote control
A maximum of 4 remotes can be programed at any one time.
When programming an additional or replacement remote, all previosly programmed remote control switches will be erased and therefore will not operate the door lock. These must be reprogrammed at the same time.

1. Enter programming mode by unlocking the vehicle, turn the ignition switch to the "ON" then "OFF" positions 3 times within 5 seconds, finishing in the "ON" position.
The vehicle is now in programming mode
2. Within 5 seconds operate the button on the new/ existing remote control switch.
The turn signal lights will flash to indicate that the remote control switch has been programed
3. Within 5 seconds of the operating the button of the remote control switch just programmed, operate the button on the next remote control switch. The turn signals lights will flash to indicate that the remote control switch has been programmed.

Note:Should u fail to operate the button within 5 seconds, the vehicle will exit programming mode. Programming mode must therfore be re-entered and any previously programmed remote control switches must be re-programmed.

My TE remote is sealed so unless you ply it open to change the battery. but for programming is like the above.

If the KF is anything like the TF then the fob is sealed and battery can't be replaced. The only ones you could replace the battery on were the ones with the red and green buttons.

There are a couple of different options, depending on how much money you wanna spend and what you want your remote to look like in the end.

1. Cheapest and shoddiest - pry your fob apart, replace the battery and stickytape it back together. Use black electrical tape for that extra bling!

2. Good price and Looks the goods - Ebay is your friend here. Or if your in WA there is a shop in Malaga that sells them aswell. One compnay makes the remotes for Mitsubishi, some go to Mitsu and have the diamond badge on them, others have no diamond badges and go elsewhere. They are the exact same remote, one just has a small mitsu diamond on the remote. You can pick them up from ebay for about $30. Some of them are even genuine and will have the diamond badge.

3. Most expensive, pukker looks. - Go to mtisu.

ok.. so i can put it into programming mode and ive done it lots of times but only sometimes does it flash a second time to indicate its programmed... but then when i do that and its "programmed" it then doesnt work... what gives? I got it this morning from the dealer and so it should be working correctly - is there a certain button or is it any button you have to press?

Once the indiacators illuminate, the vehicle is in "program mode" Then you press any button on the remote, and the indicators should illuminate again, meaning " programmed ". Press a button on all your remotes, one after the other, so they all work!
If that doesn't work, then you have a problem!

p.s: I would avoid Ebay and second hand remotes, especially with sealed remotes. The remote you are purchasing is more than likely at least 5 years old, and probably good for a few days! The batteries have a life-span of about 2 years. If we can afford $7000+ cars, $50 cases of beer, $11 packets of smokes... we can afford $55 bucks for a remote for the keyless entry convinience.

Oooh yeah mm.. couldnt put it better myself, no point in stuffing around if it aint worth it in the end... i might swing past the dealer on sat and see if he has anything to say about it - the thing that got me was that sometimes the lights flash saying its confirmed but not actually work after...

Did your indicators flash? if it did you should be able to press the button and it should work after that.
