hey all,

just the other day coming down the highway i stopped for lunch with a full tank of fuel, drove off again and within 20ks the gauge told me i had half a tank of fuel left. Stopped and checked for leaks, none and no smell so I carried on, watching the gauge slowly drop to empty. When I got to a servo I splashed 5 litre of fuel in and it instantly jumped back up to the proper reading.

Over the last few days of city driving i've done 102kms and using 14.0l/100 on the trip computer, so i've only used 14 litres from a full tank but the gauge has dropped to empty again, although i can hear the fuel in the tank when i wobble the car and its definately full.

Any idea what's causing it to drop? I had a thought that the float might have a hole and is slowly filling and causing it to sink, doesnt seem to fit the explanation since it went back up. It doesn't seem electrical because it drops about an 8th of a tank every 5 minutes or so.

Thoughts?

I find in my 2nd Gen it's just as bad. The fuel Gauge on my Magna can show me half a tank one second, a third of a tank the next and then nearly empty  Hills especially seem to annoy the fuel gauge. I wouldn't mind too much but my ol Pug 505 could at least tell me If I needed to fuel up lol

Seems like they're $70 at trade price, will fit myself. Thanks, sorry for not searching, seemed different from symptoms i've heard before.
