Hi peeps,
Can someone PLEASE point out to me where the coolant sensor is and how i go by re-installing a replacement one for a Magna SE 94? :stoopid:
My car is constantly overheating and its because the darn fan won't switch on when it suppose to. :doubt:
I have tested the fans using the A/C and they work fine. They switch on at intervals as they are suppose to. But they NEVER switch on when the A/C is off no matter how hot the engine gets. Really Pi$$ing me off grrrr....

Thermostat is the word I think you're looking for, I gotta change mine this weekend, $15 for a new one and gasket from Supercheap. Pretty sure you just follow your radiator top hose to where it goes to the engine side, then it's supposed to be located there somewhere... I'll look at my manual later. Good luck!

No he's after the coolant sensor not the thermostat, if its the fan not working. I don't have a pic of a 2nd gen setup but on the third gen - where the top radiator hose goes into the engine - on that alloy moulding are mounted two brass electrical sensors wired into the loom - the larger one is the coolant sensor (feed goes to the ECU and hence is the fan switch) and the smaller one is the feed for your temp gauge. They're about $50 from Mitsu, the temp gauge one is about $100 from Mitsu and I also believe you can get clones from Repco cheaper as well.
so if the 2nd gen layout is like a 3rd gen - that may help.

the thermosensor located on the left hand side of the bottom hose outlet of the bottom radiator tank. This is what triggers the fans(1st and 2nd gens), not the coolant sensor

Is this a 4cyl or 6 cyl?
His profile says 4.
Looks like the info I posted is useless.

Also check its not the relay in the fusebox, had the same issue in my TR AND the mrs' KR and replacing the relay fixed it on both occasions. $6 for relay.

Well guess what,
Coolant Sensor was the culprit! Thanx Rob_D for the Jpegs, oh and everyone else!:bowrofl:
Called repco told me would take 4 days to get it in for $36.00. Ordered it today, but for the meanwhile did a MacGyver and tapped the two leads together.
The Fans are running constantly, but atleast i dont over heat and fry the engine. Especially with the latest weather Sydney's having. :doubt:
So, to sum it up:
Fans wont switch on because the Collant Sensor was shot.
Tapped the 2 fan wires that suppose to be connected to the sensor for the meantime until the part arrives.
Ahhhh....

"Tapped the 2 fan wires that suppose to be connected to the sensor for the meantime until the part arrives."
THAT may upset the ECU as it also uses this sensor adjust mixture as far as I understand - do you have aircon? Better to just untap the wires and use the aircon all the time - that'll run all fans anyway - till you get a new sensor.
