For interestes sake... before anyone wants to spank my arse and call me a naughty boy - I was in the unrestricted zone.
Mate and I took the car out the other day to see what it could do. So I'm asking, does 190 Km/h sound about right for the top speed on my car? At the time I was fairly busy concentrating on the road.. only got a glimpse of the tacho.. and once I hit 190 I backed off so I'm not sure if it has anymore left in it... would've been magic to hit 200 but really.. it would've been a sad day if I'd got a blow out, etc.. didn't really want to push my luck.

All i can tell you is at that speed no one is your friend , not even GOD.
so be carefull
on ther other hand
we have few champs here who have done over 200, with few at 215 km/h+.
but in the end you have to be very carefull at that speed as a little stone on the road can be the difference between life and death. :)
trust me a rock on the road at 120 can be bad.
ive sat on 180 without a problem but then i have 225 50 17s with V(240) rating bridgestone grid 2.
smooth as silk and i suspect that the suspension is sports being a vrx :) so its a tad safer with normal shocks etc you can bounce yourself off the rd going round a corner if your not careful.
i havent gone past 180 unless on an overtake where i generally dont look at the speedo :P i just drive and concentrate.
i went 180km/h in my 2.6l TR, on stock suspension and stock tyres.....felt pretty smooth and stable. I was by-myself and it was 2am on a practically empty highway.

i have hit the 210 limiter in my TH Exec a few times now
so yeah - there is probably a little bit more left in your car - just be safe doing it - make sure you are on open straight roads and no one is around and your tyres and car are in good condition!!

I understand what you're on about there guys. Now I've got that out of my system I honestly doubt that I'll see the high side of 140 for quite a while.
It wasn't the best ride although I did get a wheel alignment, balance and rotate yesterday which I was waiting for before proceeding. The tyres and suspension are fine but it's only a stock executive with 15's and it was a little more floaty than I would've liked.
it is a weird feeling when your on a national highway and you have to slow down for normal 100 corners :P

if you d/l the video of my 210 effort - you can see where i had to slow for the bend in the road - taking a right hander at 180 is not fun at all!!!
I really need to update that video now that i have a few mods and decent suspension and wheels - just need to find the right place ;) haha

But always remember if u hit 200km/h the error on the speed is even higher. The speedo may show 200km/h but the car could be doing only 180-185km/h on an actual trap speed measurement.
An example was my Speedo showing around 195-200km/h but the RSM measured 188km/h
The E300 Merc's speedo in my mate's ends at 240, but the needle went past that, upon measuring the possible top speed of the car through gear ratio and higesh possible RPM as well as the diameter of the wheel, it came up only to 235Km/h...

yeh 4am on deserted highway saw me hit 200. had a bit to go but i didnt see the point, 200 was my goal.
1am driving up the coast a few days ago i was having lots of fun with a non turbo 300ZX. heaps of drags and killed it everytime, cruising alongside at 140 in 4th gear and punching it. lots of fun :)
i didnt go further than 160 though, and cruised back to 115 when he exited off.

Bah....My Skylines doin 180kmh from standstill in 400m....and its still in 3rd :p
240-250kmh (rev Limit) comes up 'very' quickly afterwards.
I have done this many times with this and other fast cars i have owned on stock standard family car tyres....no problem.
It is when you maintain those kind of speeds that problems arise, as long as your straight up and straight down no problem ;)

Hey guys with all due respect a standard auto in a TH in 4th does 100 at 2000ish RPM, 160 at 3000Rpm, therotically, 220 at 4000, 280 at 5000 and so on. Of course there is no way my car could get to the speeds without major power increases.
I have never been over 180 and that was in 3rd still accelerating, just, and no there is no weiner factor here, just telling you what the dials say.

Everyone please please remember that doing these speeds on public roads is not only very dangerous but also highly illegal.
Race tracks are the place to do this sort of thing, there are no cars pulling our in front of you or people running from behind the tree you are about to mutilate your car on.
A very good example is the commo last week here in vic, the engine got thrown from the car, over a fence and nearly into someone's bedroom.
I am not saying we should be little goodie goodies but when you read of people like the poor little 3 year old that lost his life in Sydney last week during a Police chase, it does make on stop and think a bit.

What Mal said was totally right, I have to admit that when I did my run, I did it in Country Victoria in the wee hours of the morning and once, Nick (2much) went with me, there were no cars, if an accident does happen (touchwood). at least if I die I won't bring anyone with me... and if I crash, I will crash into the sweet pastures and not someone's bedroom. But of course, once is enough.. and I would like to stress on Mal's point, DO IT ON THE TRACKS :)

Personally, in my TM GLX 180 in 4th about 4500RPM, slight downhill
that was cool! coz the tires where only H rated, HAHA.... in other words, it could have Blown up to pieces... but the problem was that it took probably 1min to get from 100 to 180. so not fun at all....
in TF auto, only 190 didn't push hard, free way entrance. it was doing about 4000rpm.
in VY Commodore exec 3.8 ecotec, 240 and decided to slow down. it was doing 4500 or near 5000.

The other thing we will probably do next time (In the vague future) of our vehicle is get a damage auto and transfer the main gear to drop the gearing down to improve economy and give it some longer legs.

Fastest I've been was on the way to Adelaide along dead straight, flat country roads near Millicent. I hit 170 there and chickened out because all it takes is a little echidna or something to stumble out and turns your whole bumper into mesh.
Also without some type of lower front bar or a lip extension was also getting a noticeable amount of lift which made the steering vague.

I've got a stock TS V6 3L magna with the standard 15" steel rims (& wheel covers), 5sp manual, running PULP & pedders sports shocks (not lowered).
I've read with interest the reponse to this topic as I have been thinking of upgrading the 2nd car (a ford) to a TH/TJ 3.5L.
I have hit a top speed of 212-3klm/hr on flat land & on several occasions, exceeded 200klm/hr with a slight incline. I would be a little disappointed if your feedback is true because I would expect to exceed 220klm/hr (& possibly hit 230klm/hr) with a 3.5L, particularly with some simple mods (ie. K&N, exhaust, 16"/17" rims).
Of course, these speeds are dangerous & highly illegal.

Unless you know a way of disabling the speed limiter, I very much doubt your chances of going over 220 km/h in a TJ (as I recall its set 5km/h higher than a TH). Unless your going down a VERY STEEP hill :D :D
Perhaps an aftermarket ECU would also work???? :?

They should make all Cars capable of at least 150km/h, makes high way over taking a lot quicker and safer if you can over take quicker so you don't spend as much time on the other lane.

never tried going past 150....dont wanna die, and don't wanna lose my p licence.
Wouldn't going 30km/h over the limit cause you to lose your Ps?
Bottomline... Don't Speed ;) ( Although I admit I do so at times, but not with cars around, if I have an accident, at least I don't kill others but only myself)

The fastest I have even been was 200 km/hr in my magna and 220km/hr on my RGV250 motorcyle (Twice). Scared the living daylights out of me and have never done it again. The road gets very small at that speed.
And it probably only took you about 11secs to get to 200 aswell

Don't mean to sound preachy, but testing car's on highway's kill's families.
Hat's off to Mr Todd Wilkes of Brisbane who a few year's ago put the 1000hp+ 5.0L twin turbo V8 from "JUDGE", his commodore ute, into an Alpha Romeo Giacattolo and was doing about 230kph when he hit the wall at the end of the straight on a reverse track race at Eastern Creek.
He only killed himself.
But hey, if we all get out on the track's, maybe they'll let something else into the touring car circuit, and we can show the dinosaur's how to build a car. Funny how Australian built American grunt got whipped by Japanese technology so they banned it.

I absolutely agree. Pedigree or Mongrel in this case seems to count more than the racing. But how many fans out there of non-V8 would go to see Skylines, RX7s, Audis etc winning the Bathurst series. Obviously the promoters think that there would be very few, thats why they chnage the rules. But come on, would we kick out all the drug crazies and replace them with well behaved studious types, no the only thing that would be different is the cars and the support to australian car industry (lots more competition) and in turn the affect on the environment of super powerful cars that have only 2L engines. No more V8s killing plants as they go by.
Fastest Speed Magna 210kmh (LIMITER!!!), YZF R6 250kmh (no more torque, carburetted)

its a bit of thing really... i like the V8's, but not cause of what they are, its more cause of the racing, its heaps more exciting than most other motor sports (except Rally of course, its way the best!!).... Nascar is boring, F1 is boring as batshit, motorbikes are pretty good to watch... true there is some skill in all of the above, but the closer races and tougher tracks make the V8s a really good series!!
Also as for V8's killing plants... if you're talking about the race spec versions, the WRX's that were hiking around the 24hr were using nearly the same amount of fuel (or so they said, and quote figures, on channel 10) as the monaro!!! i couldn't believe it... but they said it!!!

add to the fact on a daily basis I see many cars, stock, being driven on the road pumping out more pollution than these race cars.
as for the promoters thinking more will come for the V8's, i always thought the basis of racing was the best won, not the most popular.
It was just that neither the ford or holden team could keep near the skylines so they protested and this is now what we are stuck with

Hey all you race fans.
You know what i say? BRING ON THE SKYLINES, MAGNAS ON CRACK, WRX's, SUPRAS to the batherst 1000!
They'ed shit all over the fords & holdens ESPECIALLY in braking, cornering, and acceleration due to thier lighter chassis!

What they race in the V8 supercar series aren't Commodores or Falcons. My mountain bike has more in common with a road going Commodore or Falcon than the V8 Supercars do.
GT-P is the most relevant series as the cars most closely relate to what we drive. I don't know if manufactures like it though because it can show their cars for what they really are.
Oh yeah, 180km/h is the fastest I've been.

Yeah and if I remember correctlly when they first ran the Magnas in the GT-P, they beat both the SSs and XR8s, and I think even the Camrys did quite well

A long time ago when i was young and stupid, (about 2 years ago)
i took my 3.0L V6 TF manual up to the 220km/h limiter, very straight, smooth road with great visibility, no traffic and a drive past first to make sure nothing was on the road, bugger being stupid near a bend.
Car felt great, steering was excellent, I can say that i have only ever been to that speed once, and wont stress my ageing engine doing it again, no point really, the limiter will still be there. Car was still pulling pretty strong though.
Standard everything, lowered suspension.

I have pulled 200 out of 4th gear, with only a muffler, and when i dropped it into 5th, i got 210, but i slowed down cos there was traffic ahead. :D

lol i miss read and thought u said camera was about so say, u couldnt get a camera going 280 if u dropped it off a cliff. even in a porche i find it hard to believe it could do 300 for a car of that age.

I've hit 160 in my KH Verada on the F3 Freeway heading up to Newcastle. Going down Canberra way this weekend so will see what else is left. Felt completely stable even though it's stock.
Although, I owned an 97 R33 Skyline just two months ago and that thing absolutely flew. I actually had the needle off the speedo in that (speedo was replaced with a 250 unit from standard) so can't be precise. All I know is that it was devastatingly quick both off the mark and on the move. Had plenty of mods on it as well which probably helped .
Must admit though that in terms of smoothness and sophistication, the Verada is a league above the Skyline. May not be as quick but I don't regret selling it.
Go the Magnas.

i know i dont belong here but i got to 170 with my tp magna that was fun but it was on a very smooth part of the freeway little bit downhil but i am proud of it a worn engine at 170 with 300000ks on it i didnt really feel any roughness hence the smooth freeway but my cvs are f*cked as well

for insane speeds and acceleration a bike has got it on my GSXR off the clock(300+) don't know why i did it i turned the thing into a race bike i feel much safer on the track. As for the car, AWD Sports, cut out at 215-220 on the same bit of road i used for the bike, but that is out in the sticks and is a flat straight of about 15k's not scrub or other obstacles close to the road. My excuse is that it is on the way home and i don't need to spend that long looking at the scenery. Got pulled up once by the cops but they were the locals so they said to take it easy and would catch up with me later. nice blokes

just to modify my statement a little, that bikes are the way to go, of the showroom floor, no modifying, when you start modifying and spending unlimited money bikes lose out.
