Hi guys, before i stick myunder the car to have a good look i was wondering if anybody has an idea/experience with the 3Ltr V6 leaking oil down the back (fire wall side) of the motor.
Im hoping its just rocker cover but could it be worse.
the back of the motor is wet and its leaving about 30ml on the ground about an hour after a normal drive.
cheers.
EDIT i just went out and stuck my hand down the back of the head and its dry so that counts the rocker cover out.

welsh plugs don't leak oil  :bowrofl:
if it doesn't look like its not the rocker cover, make sure its not a leak that's from the front/side that's running to the back, but yeh best to get a $2 can of degreaser, clean the motor up and check all around and underneath for damp spots

If you haven't changed the rear rocker cover gasket recently or cleared the rocker cover breather tubing, do it before you chase anything else. If it still leaks then start looking at cam shaft seals etc.
Give it a good degrease, change the gasket, and check the breather. Fair chance you'll fix.

Don't forget the sump leaks too.
Mine had an oil leak from the cam seal - it's common.
The oil ran down the back of the engine block and dripped on to the exahust heat shield, vapourised and smelled bad. You could really smell it after a long hills run, and then arriving in city and pulling up at the lights.

Other thing is. Are you sure it is oil and not coolant? Remembering that coolant is slightly oily to touch.

Definatly oil. I degreased last week when i changed the oil so i hope i havent left it too long to trace where its comming from.
I will be looking closely at the cam seal,
it also seems wet (dripping) where the crank seal is but this is lower than where the back of the block is wet and could also be running down from the cam seal. Is the crank seal also a common problem?
If its the cam seal would i be able to see it from the drivers side around the head area?
Is it a big job to do?

I'd say it's a cam seal. I too had this problem on my 3.0L.
Also note that if it is the cam seals, good chance oil got onto the timing belt, in witch case it's best to change it.

Ive had problems with oil leaking out of the cam shaft seals aswell.
