Hey Guys

Well i just bought my VRX not a week ago, and i only got one key for it plus the valet key, low and behold i ring up the past owner and he forgot to give me the second set :S anyways i go over to pick it up today and tonight i thought hell i will try it out see if it works. well first of all the FOB doesn work!!

so i thought it was just the fob battery problem, moving along i unlock the car using the 2nd black key go and try and start the car with the SECOND black key, Car starts up a treat , hits idle speed and then Electronically dies, as in the ECU purposefully kills the engine, i am led to believe this is a immobiliser/key code issue, how can i rectify that? it only ever happens with the second black key.

and also changed the battery on the FOB and ZIP ZILCH NADA..nothing happens, i even tried the whole "program your fob" routine, to no avail. Its annoying cause the car wont even start or open remotely with the second set! useless piece of arrghh .

Seems i would have to get my second key recoded at mitsu?? and the FOB problem?

I know that its not a problem with the immobiliser itself or the car, cause the first set of keys is a winner. its the second set which is kaputters.

Any help would be appreciated

yeah you might have to go back to mitsubishi to get your key re-coded for your car

Eeerm forgive my stupidity but whats FOB??

Anyway the second key your talking about... Is it the keyless entry remote your talking about or the metal key itself?

If its just the remote you can reprogram it yourself but you have to do it to both remotes for some strange reason. Thats what happened to me when i reprogrammed my second remote. Ended up reprogramming both remotes one after the other.

no problem,

put working-coded key into ignition.

click to acc - ign, acc - ign, acc - ign, acc - ign

leave a ~1 sec gap between each cycle.

when cycled correctly, indicators will flash

press button on each remote that needs to be programmed.

switch key to off

remove key

and test

Hope this info helps.

As a rule of thumb, always get all keys recoded when you buy a new car. You don't know who else out there has a key. All keys must be recoded at the same time, and its ~$35. They need access to the MUT2 diagnostic system, so you have to go to mitsubishi.

Dainese answered the question about the remote (FOB). I've done that many a time. if that doesnt work, it must just be dead

If its just the remote you can reprogram it yourself but you have to do it to both remotes for some strange reason.

The reason is that when a remote is re-programmed, a random number code is generated by the car's security system. You have to do all remotes at the same time so that they all get the same code.

This has to be done when one of the remotes needs a battery change, as its code is lost when the battery goes flat.
