View Full Version : Squeakigng brakes
After putting my brakes through a HEAVY use for about 1 hour (going up and down a mountain at extremely stupid speeds)
I now notice that they squeak when I come to a stop - this is days after the rape of my car. Why? Have I to put it nicely rammed 'em in the bum? If i have to change pads - I might as well put better rotors on. What do you think? Is this normal? By the way - after I pulled into a service station after the attack on the brakes, after a couple of seconds I heard a valve or something release, and extreme amount of smoke came from the front two wheels. After the smoke stopped, I took the car back up the mountain

u didnt throw water on em did ya?
If it was raining it would have buckled the disc...giving the squeek.
or ya pads are already low...
what mountain u going up n down? down the gong?
just guessing, but the 'valve' u heard release, could have been overflow out of the radiator, which could have leaked out onto something hot (have a look where the overflow comes out from)....but unless u have 2 overflows there shouldnt be smoke coming from both wheels. :?

was it Mt Keira?
for cheap pads. There is a truck supply shop down the back of kirawee (down from that import shop) thay sell pads for about 1/2 or what repco or other auto shops sell em. You could probly order disc threw him aswell.
They are bendix pads...if thats whats ur after

For me, at one particular time all that could be seen behind me was smoke coming from the fronts' calipers - that was after driving 20 minutes, 180km/h down to 40 quickly every minute... you've probably warped or glazed the discs from too much contrasting conditions.

The smoke coming out of the two front wheels would have been the pads burning; looks like you need some higher temperature compound pads, or slotted rotors which will aid in cooling slightly, build some brake air ducts, or get huge wheels to increase ventilation.
My pads were smoking by the end of the downhill run on the AMC Vic cruise last month, because I had to stay off the ass of the car in front!!!
was it Mt Keira?
yep
how much will slotter rotors cost me? plus fitting?

i just got mine done. $130 for each bda slotted rotor.
Fitting cost was $75 but that included getting new pads too.
