Hi Guys i need help.

I was given a 2 stroke mower by the in laws, for nothing (hes got a few of them). Now i dont know how well it was working when i got it, but i instantly changed the petrol (in laws though regular car oil was just as good as 2 stroke), and played with the carby, spraying carby cleaner and the like, as well as replacing the spark plug and air filter. I am not ruling out the chance that ive stuffed something up while playing with the carby, for instance i could have incorrectly re-assembled something or pierced something.

Now, if i put the throttle in the right place i can start it first go, and then i push it all the way forward and it screams, like it should, then after about 5 seconds it will die like ive backed the throttle right off, then then it will putter for a sec then race right back up and rev its guts out.. then it will die again, rinse and repeat.

Now my question is.... what's wrong with it?

Also if i pull the throttle to "off" it will rev like crazy, i have to put the throttle half way for it to slow down and eventually stall.

Just wondering if anyone here knew what might be wrong before i head of to my local mowerport place and get a rebuild kit, and a book "how to rebuild your two stroke"

Oh and if its worth anything, its a victa with a power torque engine and a plastic carby, apparently this may help.

Cheers all!

By the sounds of it, I'd have a play with the air/fuel mixture screw. see wat happens...sound slike its just starving of petrol.

Also try taking the muffler off and cleaning out the exhaust port. Worth removing the carby too and cleaning out the inlet port.

They get blocked with carbon.

I've taken off the muffler and cleaned that "port" and I've had the carby off but i didn't really get into it with the carby cleaner, ill do that sometime, i was just seeing if anyone knew these as obvious symptoms of a 2 stroke problem.

Also i haven't seen a mixture screw, i don't know if/how its adjustable...

if you know you have a good spark

when the carby is on the motor is on the white piece with the primer bulb there is a line
with an arrow on it it should be pointing up and Horizontal if you have done that it should
be OK. The next thing to check is the that you have good fuel flow from the tank to the
carby if it's only a trickle check that the hole in the fuel cap is not blocked and if it
isn't then you will have to replace the fuel tap as it has a fuel filter on it and when blocked
it gives you the impression that it is a carby problem.

all sorts of victa sites to get info and pictures from off the web

also 2 strokes need good seals top and bottom to run they need crankcase pressure

sounds like there might be a bit of crud in the inlet valve of the carby. Where the petrol enters there will probably be a little three side brass pin with something stuck on it.
Use some carby cleaner on it and pull it apart again.

I have a workshop manual ( Used to Fix them all the time)
Will get it out tomorrow & scan & post relevant info if you like.

i'm pretty sure there is 3 mixture screws on a 2 stroke

Actually, on the Plastic G4 Carby... there are no mixture needles. it works from engine vacuum & throttle position. There is a large knob on some, which can be used to adjust the idle. As stated by another member, the line must be horizontal, with the arrows pointing up.Make sure the needle has not fallen out.Check the filter on the needle.

Hey guys,

sorry to rain on the parade, but i posted this over a year ago! I have long since bought myself a new Victa 4 stroke (back when they were aussie).

But hopefully these tips can help someone out there in google land.
