Hi guys,
Im posting today to gauge an opinion about what I should do about a flat tyre issue recently.

To start from the beginning, i bought a 2000, KH Verada Xi (brilliant) two onths ago that came with aftermarket 18" alloy wheels and tyres. Last week i came out of work to find one of the tyres flat. This would not have been an issue but the wheel nuts were non factory so the tyre brace did not fit or work. After i organized one that will fit, i discoverd that the wheels had locking nuts on them and as i was not supplied the key the car had to be tilt trayed home (the flat was at the rear). I then had the car towed to my local Bob Jane dealer where i was told that the nuts had to be broken off and replaced as well as the tyre could not repaired as it was unroadworthy due to some wear on the inside edge. He also mentioned that the front tyre on the same side also had to be replaced.

After balancing and wheel alignments, the total bill for my simple flat tyre was $635 including towing.

My question is should i be able to get the car dealer to pay for at least some of the bill as i could not change the tyre as well as it not being roadworthy? If so i will pursue the dealer, if not then i suppose ill have to wear the cost. any input would be appreciated, thanks.

If they are nice enough people to deal with mate, go back and have a chat. I know when i first bought my car it needed the major 105k service and i took the receipt back to the dealer and he went halves in it with me, which is decent. Just have a chat and explain what happen if there nice enough people they should help u out.

if the car is less than 100,000k's then it comes with a 5000k warranty. get in there asap with ur receipt and try to claim it, dunno if it can be claimed after the repair.

but yes, seems that car would have been unroadworthy, so try hard 2 claim it.

also if the inside edge had uneven wear then make sure the wheel alignment gets checked

I would have thought you would have needed to have taken the car back to the dealer for them to carry any part of the cost?

They are at least responsible for the missing lock nut tool. Work out how much that would have cost you and make sure you get that back minimum.

Thanks Guys.

I have contacted the dealer and am meeting with the manager tomorrow. Thanks for the advice. I would have contacted the dealer prior to the work being done however they are around 150klms away. So far i have been polite and only asked for the total amount less the amount it would have cost me for a tyre repair or single tyre replacement ($200-300). Thanks for the advice. I will post a result
