I' ve just had my fuel sender changed....again. I've reset the trip computer and have driven for around 5 km now. An interesting thing i've noticed with average fuel on the trip computer. At 1km....it was reading 18.8L/100km. I had the car in P and I noticed that the reading was increasing every 30s-1min. 18.8 to 19.5 to 20.3 to 20.6, etc. Should it be using that much petrol while in P? Now at 5km (100% city driving), it is 20.3L/100km with no heavy acceleration. Now I know gradually over time it will decrease but I'm just curious about how much petrol does it uses in P.
Can someone reset their trip computer and have the car in P and watch the average fuel on the trip computer?
I have a TJ ralliart tiptronic.
Thanks

You should understand, that as you reset the trip computer, at the start it has less data with which to average out. As you drive more and sit at higher speeds (60, 70), it will average out to a normal figure.

If the care is not moving (in P), it will be using infinite litres per 100km, as it will not ever travel 100km!

Correct. Fuel usage is calculated as litres per 100Klms. If you only travel 1m but sit and idle at a stop, you will obviously use a LOT of fuel.

ie. 100mls / 1m = 0.1L / 0.001 = 100L per 100K - simple.
