Down-gearing the other night a few times from 3rd to 2nd. Most of the other down changes are fairly consistant on the rev range after the down gear has been engaged. Then there seems to be a bit bigger difference in the revs once you engage down From 3rd to 2nd.
Does anyomne else have this? I was thinking its the Ratios from 3rd to 2nd are futher apart than the others? Not sure

Yep Thats Right
Dunno about the actual ratios or what not but i feel a big difference too, and it drops it back just above the meat of the rev range. But by god its good when your rolling at about sixty and drop it from third to second, insane difference. Dont worry i would say, just dont do it too much or you will be looking at some expensive fixes from noticing experiences other members have been unfortunate enough to have. 2 - 3 grand for a new box some say??
Anyways cheers

Yeah it does feel good. Really rev's out nicely but you can tell box has a longer think before down-shifting to 2nd than the other gears...once she's in the engine note is sweet. expecially when my car is VRX.

yeh its sounds/feels mad, my rada runs simular setup to vrx(well used to) now it sounds even better :)
just don't down shift to often, the tippy does it itself, if you must just down shift when u need the extra acceleration, but try avoiding down shifting when slowing down, can cause the 2nd to 3rd gear changes to start knocking, mitsu boxes are sensitive to it.

Hmm a longer think? my box has the occasional think when its going for a hard run, but not when doing normal driving. have you removed your Battery lately?
i think the ECU re learns shift patterns after it gets disconnected, so if you have disconnected the battery and taken her for a driv e and shifted from 3rd to 2nd aggressively, i think the box might have learnt to keep doing it that way?? can someone correct me if i am wrong?

the 3rd to 2nd tippy shift is the quickest manual shift my box makes it instantly gears down, unlike the usual 1/4 second delay you usually get when selecting gears manually

Yeah I agree because 90% of my driving is very conservative. Then I might drive with a bit of purpose occasionally so the box has to think ----- "what the!, he doesn't normal drive like this". After a few quick shifts it does learn and re-adjusts. It's the 90% driving that it learns more of and is used to.
I had my battery changed 6 months ago.
Also just looked at the manual for the ratios:
1st gear = 3.789
2nd gear = 2.057
3rd gear = 1.421
4th gear = 1.000
5th gear = 0.731
Just looking there is a bit of difference........

Then why have the option to manualy choose gears (aka tippy) if your "NOT SPOSE" to do it
I think maybee the answer is the mitsu boxes are peices of crap, because you should be able to do what you bloody like if your given the option!!!.
I like to downshift for the slowing down/engine breaking like a manual, i hate being a grandma auto driver using the brakes for every time i need to slow down slightly...
p.s i drive in tippy 100% of the time, i redline the car often and chirp it into 2nd, i also downshift at high revs and it goes mental trying to stay alive, but my gearbox is still running smooth as baby's ass = some of you are paranoid!
