My lovly Girlfriend wishes that i install a subwoofer to her new Yaris 3 door.
Problem is, there is not alot of space in these things. We also want to keep the ability to fold the rear seats down to use the space for lugage. I was thinking a single Responce 8" in a panel on the side of the boot.I could patrialy box it, but i tink i will do it freeair. We arnt going for a DB record, we just wasnt to support the speakers with a little bass.
I will be adding splits later, and an amp for the speakers.

Wouldnt a set of decent amped 6x9 splits provide just as much bass response as a 8" sub.

rip out the rear seat then you'll have plenty of room :D
a 10" sub would do nicely or a decent set a 6x9's

the JB hifi got 3rd place at the db drags at epping in a stock std echo, only stereo equi other than stock was a prefab dual 12" sub box and small monoblock, running the wiring down the outside of the car :bowrofl: as they decided to enter the stock std car into the db drags as they thought the competition was pretty lame... it was a last min decision...
the following monday the subs amp and trophy were back in stock and on display lol
my point?
i have 4 12's in my car and i can remove either 2 or all of the subs in 10seconds and then have luggage space, then quickly re tune the system without the subs and it sounds pretty good..
and in a yaris immaging 2 12's pulverising your guts:badgrin:

Dindt my first post say NOT TRYING TO MAKE A DB CAR?
anyway, with the rear seats inplace, there is not enough space for a single 12" the sub is higher than the rear seat!

dont the rear seats in the yaris slide backward and forward??? im pretty sure they do. there should be plenty of room in there for a 10" in a slimline box. i would honestly just go a good set ($250-350) of 6x9's. they will put out plenty of bass in that little car.

Cut a hole in the centre of roof and mount the sub facing into the car hahaha
Nah, I like the idea of the 8" in the back corner somewhere. Depends on how much money you (or she) are prepared to spend... if you think you could make a custom box in the corner great, or whether you go somewhere and get them to make a custom fibreglass corner box. The latter would look neater, but would be more expensive. Doesn't need to be a big box for that sub, they work very well in a small enclosure.
Morel also make a very nice 8" sub. My mate had one of those, it was a very tight musical sub.

What happened to the Lancer?
It used lots of fuel (for a small 4 cylinder sedan.)
I can make up a fibreglass box later, as im doing an audio install course and traineeship.
The rear seats do slide forwards, but the floor drops away at the back seat. With a full sized spare in the boot, the floor needs to be higher. In outher countrys, the yaris gets a little tyre, and a bigger boot

The OZECHO (http://www.ozecho.com/) website has Echo and Yaris forums where you may find the info you are after.

With a full sized spare in the boot, the floor needs to be higher.Hmm... any way you could put the sub in/under the spare? If there's empty space inside the hub of the wheel? Rather leftfield I know, but hey, you never know...

I had a 1400w 12" in my echo.. made myself a box and a fake floor to cover the amp, sad thing was that when we worked out the kw of the car and made the reeeeaaally dodgy half drunk conversion that 1400w = 1.4kw it worked out as about 3% of the cars total power....would bounce though!
