Hi guys,
This is my second post and the 1st time I'm creating my own thread.
I have changed the alternator today and noticed some oil and dirt on the right hand side of the engine bay. I decided to clean it up once I started the car I checked the engine bay. I found oil leaking from the sections highlighted by the white arrow in the two pictures attached.
I don't really have an idea as to what the oil is or what it is used for? I'd like some help on this please. Is this related to the power steering unit?
I will try and tighten up the metal fastener but the plastic pipe might cracked or broken. How much work is required to replace it? What is needed to be done?
Is there a thred on this?

Little help please would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers guys
Chris

Hey mate, Its a common problem for those hoses to just "go" over time, or even the clamping.

Go buy some new power steering hose, and a few good clamps, and she should be as good as gold.
shouldnt be too hard to replace, probably an hours work at the most

Thanks mate wasn't too sure what it was I'll take a closer look tomorrow morning.
When replacing them do I need to drain the Power steering fluid?
How much are these items normally?
What place would be the best to purchased them from? Autobarn, Repco, Bursons?

all of those stores would have good products to choose from, i dontthink there is a generic brand to choose from anyway besides the hose clamps, so dont get those.

the power steering fliud will all drain out anyway, so keep a pan underneath. buy about a litre of it, you shouldnt need it all, but usually when you buy more you get it at a cheaper price say instead of buying 2 x 500Ml's so yeah i always opt for more.

Cheers mate I checked it out this morning, it looks like the hose is gone. Also I noticed that it was very tight on anyway. So I'll just get it replaced.
Thanks for the heads up on the power steering fluid. :)

Hi all,
Just to let you all know I dropped the two ends of the clamp which took a bit of fiddling with, I let it drain over night it filled the entire tray I had under the car which was a very deep and long tray.
It looks to belong to the automatic transmission oil cooler. The hose seems to be related to this. Could someone confirm this?
I've got a hose which I'm trying to insert into the but it is a struggle to get it on. Once I do that I will top up the fluid levels on the power steering unit.
Question now is do I replace the fluid lost here?

The hose that looks like it's running from the transmission cooler is actually the power steering cooler, which is a loop of tube that runs across the radiator.

Once you've got the steering reservoir topped up, jack the front of the car off the ground and with the back wheels chocked, handbrake on, and transmission in park, start the motor, and turn the steering wheel to lock each way half a dozen or so times. Check the reservoir, which will probably empty out as the pump refills the rack and cooler, and top it up as you need to.

I've re-attached the hose, thanks for the advice, I'll check it out now!
