Hey guys, Unfortunately I just had an accident and my bonnet needs to be changed. I am keen to change my bonnet to those newer model magna's so I am not stranded with only a choice of 96 model bonnets, and also it would make it look better.

I am asking if I could change my TE96 bonnet to those 2000+ models one where there is a nose to the bonnet.
I know that I would need to change the grille but would everything fit properly onto all other standard TE96 parts (headlights, bumper)? Do I just need to change the grille or everything else?

My understanding is that the bonnet will fit and once the grill is changed it will sit perfect.

An old NSW member, Blue Whale, did the TJ bonnet conversion and as far as I can recall it was a straight swap for bonnet and grill.

... For a while I toyed with the idea of changing to the older style bonnet with letter box grille and evo vents, but then I figure maybe I should get a house with a letter box instead. :-P

Personal choice really, but Im not a fan of the TJ birds beak bonnet, much prefer the TE-TH, particularly the KE/KF and especially the KH Xi grille. Im going thru the process of putting a KJ boot & tail lights on my KE, but I will NOT be putting the KJ bonnet on. Will be leaving the KE chrome grille and perhaps one day ill put a KH Xi one on there. Best do a search to see what the grille looks like cos I believe your cars looks would benefit more from a set of Parabolic Headlights and maybe a KE/KF/KH Grille for probably the same amount of cash.

Was looking into this myself but is not cheap to get a TJ bonnet.

Oz parts dont sell them atm. Used to. Its also much easier to replace the current one.

AHAahaha, so I guess it answers my question. The problem is, I am on comprehensive insurance and during the accident I have busted the RHS headlight and bent the bonnet + cracked the grille. If I could squeeze the parabolics I would, but I don't think my insurance company would be keen on paying over 800 dollars for the set if initially I had the standard TE headlights that cost not even a quarter of the paras.
My bonnet is bent at the crumble zones as expected so I thought maybe I could get the 'bird beak' bonnet for the newer look to my TE. Thanks for all your opinions guys, I appreciate it heaps!

GAS_Hed I also want to do the same mod as ya, but am I only restricted to the KE verada rear conversion? Or can I get the KJ's verada rears (bootlid and 4 rear lights)

just gotta add that if you change to a TJ grille and bonnet you also need the TJ bonnet catch(the lever is slighty different) or you could bend your existing one to the right shape. you also need the TJ plastic grille cover(under the bonnet covering the grille) as the TE\TF one is different.

I done this conversion with my TE (TJ bonnet + Verada grille) and never had an issue with the catch, just went straight on.

My smash repairer said you need to change the SIDE GUARDS TO MAKE IT FIT?!?!?!

Trust me wreckers most of them do not know much about modding rather selling by the book. You got a TJ? Yes it fits TJ, no it does not fit TH. thats the way it is. lol

Well Im not sure, the smash repairers doing it as long as it fits. But he sounds kinda lazy. It sounds like he wanted to panel beat my bent bonnet back to normal even when its bent @ the crumble zones, so he don't even need to go find another one to replace.

Im trying to get them to get the TJ bonnet + Grille on it, hopefully he hadn't ordered my standard TE parts yet. Nexus, if I do find out the quote on the bonnet I'd let you know.

Oh well, just been to the smash repairs and they kept insisting that I need to change the two side guards on the TE to make TJ Bonnet and TJ Grille to fit. Then I go, how about change the lights to parras? His like "Oh that won't fit too cause its a different light, the parras come in one piece including the indicator" But little the %^&* knows that their are two piece parras and people here have directly modified their magna's with direct fit bonnet and grille. This would be the last time Im taking it to this repairer.

is the repairer saying he needs to paint your guards to blend in the bonnet, or is he saying you need different guards??

Ok they finally brought it back in as it was not there for 3 months. The thing is his repairer does no know how to do it! That sucks. and giving him all kinds of excuses etc.

The same thing happened to me a few years ago, when i wanted to put monaro lights into my WH Statesman, they told me, nah nah wont fit. After telling them ill try it anyway, i bought them, and fitted them in front of the guy. He was like oh, well i guess they do fit... What a dick.

It does not apply to all wreckers but I am just saying not all are experts and they do not know the compatibility issues with our magnas and veradas.

I went to the dealers to ask for cup holders for the console and they keep digging out verada not the TJ ones. Is the kind of thing that they are more to the book and not knowing that this was possible.

To them they think you are crazy. But they never bother to really find out as they feel that is no way compatible with a newer model.

Things like Verada lights (parabolics), fog lamps, Changing bonnet, bootlid, tail lights, electrical anthena, the central console. They always seem to think in one way and not in mods. I believe its maybe their duty to ensure that it is correct fitting so that you do not bother them with an exchange. :doubt:
