Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum, but from what i can see, it looks like everything i was after!
I am 17years old, Red P-Plater and proud owner of a TR Magna GLX. I love my car (even though its a family car :P) and am trying to do as much as i can to de-family-ise it.
Recently i had a crash with a milk truck (nothing major) and i had to get a new bonnet and front left panel replaced. I attached it all myself and it came up looking pretty sweet and flush with the rest of the car, now i just have to get it sprayed, however, while i was doing it i had a few ideas for what i want to do with (what my friends have dubbed) Frankenmagna, that is to get a spoiler and body kit initially and then move from there.
I don't earn alot of money but i want my car to look good. I think this is a time for the 'less is more' approach because i dont want to be another ricer kid with a lancer. I have a magna and i want it to look sweet, not tacky.
So, if any of you have any suggestions on what i could do that would be greatly appreciated:D Btw, i'm also after a locking mechanism for the bonnet, if anyone has one laying around, let me know:P

Your best bet is to get the front end from the Jap magna - I'm not sure whereabouts you are in Oz, but I remember Jap Parts in SA had the whole front end for around 750, and when you consider that included headlights, indicators, grille, bonnet and front bar, was peanuts.
I found out about it after I had already repaired my TR...

colour coded, lowered on rims and some tint always is classy
keeping the car ultra clean is a big thing too, its amazing the amount of modified cars i see that are all dirty and it really detracts from the look of the car, specially with older cars
A nice muffler is good too
little things like grill mods and painting of dash parts goes a long way too and is cheap

You can also swap the rear centre garnish for one from an Elite / Verada, then put brake lights into the centre bits so they all light up. I did that to mine and it looked sweet as (should've taken a pic!)

A fairly cheap mod is to rebadge the car with TJ chrome badges. Though I don't think there was a TJ GLX, and a GLX is a 4cyl isn't it, so I guess that only leaves the "Magna" badge... about $20 from Mitsubishi, or if you are lucky you might be able to find a wreck and debadge it!
Do a search, there was a thread in the 2nd gen section covering modding options fairly recently, probably covered most bases and gave a rundown of the associated costs.
Wreckers are your friend. Well, the ones where you can actually crawl through all the cars yourself, pretty much forget the other ones.

GLX are all 4-cyl, and Carby models. They are the entry level car, even lower than the Exec.

well, at the moment i was thinking of getting a spoiler firstly and then a body kit, however what/how should i mod the interior, cause that would be sweet. This would include perhaps a change in colour as its currently a navy blue colour. Wood grain would be nice, its classy. White dials look good, where can i get a set of those?
Also, is it possible to get a letterbox grille for TRs? I saw some pictures of them on newer models and they look really good! With the rear garnish, can i get some advice on how to wire it to light up with the break lights? Any advice is greatly appreciated as im an incedible noob :P
thanks alot:)

P.S I live in Tamworth
P.P.S I also wanted to know if there was anyway of increasing the fuel efficiency of my magna as it seems to be kinda thirsty, is this a feature of TR 4 cyl carby Magnas?

The interior comes apart like lego, and you can paint it with most anything (it's easy as).
Rear garnish light setup includes buying the elite/verada garnish bit, inserting globes into the sockets already provided, then splicing into the existing wiring for the normal brake lights and running new wires to the new ones.

yeah ok, that sounds good! I'll see if i can track down a garnish and some lights.
with the interior, what colour would you suggest? The exterior is a 'dark silver' colour and the interior at the moment (like i said before) is navy blue. Any thing i do to the dash i'll likely have to do to the seats.
White dials would also be nice:P
P.S JamesO! Tamworth represent:P You might have seen me rolling around town. I'm pretty easy to spot at the moment, i'm kinda multi coloured:P green bonnet, dark grey front left panel (yukk). Not to fear though, it gets adjusted and sprayed a week from yesterday!

My mate did his TR interior panels in a sky blue, looked really nice. It depends on what look you're after.
If you wanna go the modern, classy look, then either get a woodgrain trim set from a Verada, or get a heatproof silver spraycan and go the polished silver look.
If you wanna go show, then get a bright pastel colour - yellows, blues and greens are good.
