Hey man..

A can of NightShades from AutoBarn and you have yourself a set of tinted tail-lights..

All you gotta do is spray your tails with NightShades and you're laughing!

If you wanna keep your existing tail-lights.. See how much you can get yourself a set of stock tails from the wreckers or even on the forums here and tint them..

Good Luck with it chief!

"Mitsubishi Magna TJ-TL Black Performance Tail Lights"

Performance lights??? LOL

Anyways, $250 does sound a bit steep, shop around and find a set cheaper. As far as night shades goes, the only examplkes I have seen in poerson don't look as good but it is alot cheaper and u can go as dark or as light as you want.

I'm actually looking up the ADRs right now for tail lights and retroreflectors... the ADR is 19/02 for the installation of lighting and light signaling devices on l-group vehicles. that ADR directs you to 49/00 and 53/00 for stop lights, 47/00 for the retroreflectors, 1/00 for the reversing light, and 6/00 and 53/00 for the direction indicators.

digging, digging...

the tail lights from Grant Walker have an E4 marking on them, which *might* be enough to get through the inspection...

seeing as I have to have my car inspected shortly, I'm fairly interested in this myself.

cheers,

EDIT: linky for ADRs http://www.dotars.gov.au/roads/motor/design/adr_online.aspx

I have some more info...

if the lights meet ECE standards (3, 6, 7 and 23) then that is considered to be equivalent to the technical requirements of the ADRs.

the lights I have have the following markings on them...

DEPO (brand name I suspect)
01-214-1981[L|R]-X (part number L = Left, R = Right)
01 2A
00 AR 02 R-S1 (the AR is actually joined into one character)
02 IB
(E4)
<-- or --> (again, left or right side)
11062

still investigating...

ok, so I stuffed up a bit... it should be ECE Standards 3, 6, 7 and 23...

all ECE quotes taken from here: http://www.unece.org/trans/main/wp29/wp29regs1-20.html

from Reg. 03 - Rev.3 - Retro-reflecting devices for power-driven vehicles

the approval."
and

1, 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 3, 4, 5 or 6 for which approval is sought in
accordance with paragraph 2.1"

which correlates to the 01 2A marking.

from Reg. 07 - Rev.4 - Front and rear position (side) lamps, stop-lamps and end-outline marker lamps for motor vehicles (except motor cycles) and their trailers

"4.2. Composition of the approval mark

which correlates to the 02 R-S1 marking

from Reg. 23 - Rev.2 - Reversing lights for power-driven vehicles and their trailers

"4.3. Every reversing lamp conforming to a type approved under this Regulation shall bear in
the space referred to in paragraph 3.4. above, in addition the mark and the particulars

Regulation.
4.3.3. The first two digits of the approval number which indicate the most recent series of
amendments to this Regulation may be placed in the vicinity of the additional symbol
"AR.""

which correlates to the 00 AR marking.

I'm going to print out the respective ECE regs and have them on hand when I take my car for inspection.

  a couple of big thumbs up for the tinted tail lights from Grant Walker... they MEET ADRs and are stamped with enough info to pass any inspection.

cheers,
.wook
