White GLX 5 speed 2.6. Blue interior for $800. It blows smoke but there are no noises from the engine. The Bloke selling it "reckons" the valve stems will cost about $150 to replace? I told him rubbish it is more like $350-$400.
Anyway still thinking about it, he says he will put me onto his mechanic for the you beaut $150 seales.
What do people think and what should we look for!

Its a carby so it'll chew a bit of petrol up. is the body clean?

When does it blow smoke? Constantly, or only at startup & idle speed?
Umm.. imho, keep away from the glx models... they have the carb version of the 2.6. Probably best to stick to EFI, for the sake of economy & drivability.
How many kms has it done?
Listen for chain rattle & lifter noise.

yeh i got the glx, but it's no longer a glx really, cos i changed it to efi and put heeps of other shiz in, much better, although u did have a first gen rite? they do feel more comfortable to drive. make sure that it has air con.
also make sure he gets it done 4 $150.
cheers

I think I understand what the story is here now, all those blokes who told me that the 2.6 uses more petrol than the V6 are refering to the Carby? I mean I find my EFI is pretty good.
I'm just saying because it does'nt make sense! less CC's, maybe if you had to drive "uphill" everywhere the EFI 4cyl would use more than a 6cyl?

I didn't even check to see if it was EFI or Carby, I just assumed it was EFI.
Body was ok, not great but straight.

No worries, I just knew I would be thread mining if I did that. Better to interject here I thought.
So maybe to wrap this fuel deal up, from what I can gather from your suggested search, the more advanced Valves/tech in the 6cyl not only make better economy but the extra 20kw ATE = with MORE cc's.
EDIT: Thanks go to the poster below...
