ps, the plan is to have black paint on black rims (no chrome or polished lip) with everything black including 15% tint, ex pipe powdercoated, everything lol then doin an off white interior (custom dash aswell)

why not just ask the place to do it piano black??? or if its gonna end up pretty close to a candy, why noy go a candy black? anyway apart from that, im not sure if a paint code would be available but i was sitting in a ford fairmont ghia the other day and the centre consol is a very striking piano black, maybe worth a look-see

the technically blackest black you can get is "GM Black".

I'd heard a rumour a while back that you can't get true black as a factory color in any car, so it will have to be a custom paint altogether.

Can't remember the reason why...

I'll second GM black if you need a factory paint mix. Although the rx8 black looks pretty damn black too

Why not goto a paint shop and ask for the blackest black they have got, i doubt you will find a factory black that is just black. If the paint shop mixes the black they should have it listed down sumwhere what amounts were used to make the colour if you ever need to do any panel beating to the car. Seems it owuld be the easiest way

on the topic of all black cars

the other week i had a close look over of a matte black 300zx, the whole exterior was matte black including the rims, dark tint, the only things that wernt darkened where the headlights n rear lights. Looks pretty dam mean!

Not keen to go black with a blue pearl?

The problem with pearl paints is the colour flip, which with blue pearl is yellow/beige. Not a good look for a black as black paint job.

I'm not sure on the code, but it's also something i've been wanting to do for a long time now.. my black has a green pearl through it, and i don't really like it, it's also crappy paintwork now :P So i'd like to know how much this paint job ends up costing you, and the code you use when you find it :)

the deepest and cleanest black you can get is super deep black which is on some toyota's and hyundai's. standox and spies hecker brand paint have a special tinter for it as it cannot be made from normal tinters as they cannot get a clean enough finish. some other paint brands have formulas for it as they have different tinters in their system. however i think the standox/spies hecker tinter is the cleanest and looks the best. this tinter is also a clear over base product while others are a straight 2K application(hardener in the paint, no clear coat) giving the standox/spies hecker a clean deep look, plus the clear coat wont oxidise or fade like some 2K finishes.

Umm.. do you want piano black, or a metallic black?

All of the cars that have been mentioned have metallic flake in them, hence why they look blueish or greenish (etc) under light.

Just go to a paint shop and pick from their catalogues.

Wow.. can only imagine how awesome a piano black would look once the orange peel is removed, and a nice LSP is put on. :D :D

To the original poster,

You want to go with a solid black paint, the colours you are all describing are not blacks but pearls, metalics and FX paints.

You will be able to go to any automotive paint seller and purchase a solid black paint, there are factory solid blacks that you could use, you would just need to ensure that you are using a solid black, most are not. My Black 2003 Rav4 was a solid black, I would give you the colour code, but she got it so it's a no go.

The deep look you are after is in the paint application, this can be acheived by either using a solid black, or a clear over base. It comes down to the painter, the preparation and the money.

After the car is painted the entire car is sanded back with up to 2500 grit sandpaper wet, then buffed to the finish you have been describing.

Hope this is a help and good luck, it should look good, in a shiny kind of mad max way.

Steve

super deep black is a solid black. no pearls, no metallics. it is a clear over base to get the clean finish. it wont have any flip colour(colour on the angles or in sunlight).
for all intents and purposes it is piano black. steves rav4 is actually the colour im talking about, the colour code is 202,black onyx. i just checked the paint formula
(i have a paint program on my computer). if you get it done make sure they dont just paint it straight black tinter as it will have a brown flip to it. hope this helps.
