Hey guys, im pretty sure most of yas are aware that its that hard to find an after market auto gear knob/shifter.
Just wondering if anyone has ever tried putting a VT or up gear shifter onto a magna? I have been thinking about this for a while, just gotta get a hold of one to try it? Any thoughts?

I know its a holden part, but come on lets face it, it is better than the ugly ones our autos have?

for the verada owners who want some more bling and chrome

the kia optima has the exact same auto nob as in the tippy 3rd gens, in leather ofcourse, but the button surround is in chrome, not black plastic...

how cool lol

it may be worth giving kia spares a call to find out the cost.... considering the car was $2 brand new it couldnt be anywhere near the mitsubishi leather nob price...

I like mine better- pics attached, cept it's now been dropped about 2 inches, and sits about half an inch above the console.

May I ask where you got that from? And how you fitted it? :D

I third this request, is it possible to put the 380 auto shifter on a non-tip magna auto?

It's an autobarn jobbie, just find an allen key, unscrew the magna one, and screw on the new one!! But it looks kinda funny sticking up like that so i cut the thing down a couple of inches so it sits nearly flat. Easy to do- just a set of pliers- snip and you're done. You'll see it when you take the gear knob off.

Any ideas on how to fit aftermarket shifters to a second gen with an overdrive button? Perhaps the overdrive can be put on the console somewhere...

Well I have the workshop manual for the TL, and I'm still no closer to knowing how to remove the stock shifter!

i have discovered through a search that there is a bolt under the button on top of the shifter for TJ's. Am I safe to assume that it is a simple bolt off old, bolt on new process? Or is there wiring implications?

On the KE theres a screw on the front of the gear knob, just unscrew and the knob comes off.

On the KJ you need to prise the button off then theres a nut under there.

I fitted a KJ (I think) leather gear knob yesterday, bloody ordeal and a half, had to drill the guts of the gear knob out to suit then drill a small hole in the leather (out of sight anyway) and find a suitable screw to secure it.

Took about an Hour and a half just to swap gear knobs over. Bloody Mitsu changing gear knobs but keeping the same basic car for almost 10 years. Grrrr.

There's a screw on the front of the auto shifter in my TL... thinking to unscrew it and see if the shifter comes off. :doubt:
