all parts like that are being changed with belt. *ancillaries* includes water pump, tensioners, rollers etc

Sounds like a reasonable price for all that, including parts.

Dosent hurt to get another quote to compare, then you will know if its a good deal or not. <- same theory works on everything.

How much is the Idle Speed control motor alone, cos I need this done very soon. Damned thing is annoying the hell out of me.

oil, coolant, all filters can be done by yourself to save a bit of money on labour! Should easily knock at least 100 bucks off that quote.

ISC Motor Genuine Mitsubishi is $95.00 off E-Bay and about 5 minutes to change!

Auto Electrician tried to charge me $190.00 for one without labor!

A new ISC makes a world of difference I found...

Good luck with it...

What kind of differences did you find?
Damn $890 is a lot of work. Buy a DOHC for $900 :D

Dimi...

Consistent / stable idle with much smoother engine idle when stopped both in N and D (car is an auto)
Much better fuel economy (from about 13L / 100klms to 11L / 100klms)

An ISC is not there just for the sake of it ... it makes a huge difference to the overall running of the car I found.

I think i need to get mine fixed. Mine stalls sometimes if i park it and leave air con on. And the car has a lumpy rev.

Here is a page on how to test your isc:

However because of their price I wouldn't buy from them.

i paid 250 installed from mitsu for the isc. that also gives me warrenty as well. if your revs dont increase or stay the same when the aircon goes on replace asap. i thought it would be fine and then 1 year later it totally failed and the car would idle at 1800 minimum when it started and then you would touch the accelerator and it would jump to 2300 and would not go down, even with the idle screw set at minimum idle speed

If that price includes labour, it sounds about right.
idle control motor is about $100-150
Valve seals i've heard the v6 is abit harder is around the $300 mark
Timing belt and ancillaries, there's $400.

well its booked in for Thursday, this guy is VERY thorough indeed. He is a good bloke. Last night was NOT fun at all. Was taking a lady friend out to dinner (Meat & Wine Co in Parramatta no less) and was just leaving her place when i put the car in D and it stalled. I thought damn, just start it up again and would not idle AT ALL! just stalled everytime. so after fiddling about under the bonnet trying to locate the idle screw in the dark, i found it and all was good. Had a lovely meal with a lovely girl :)

Cybermonkey.... please let us all know how you get along and your experiences with the mechanic...

It sounds like he may be worth keeping in mind.. hard to find mechanics who do good work at a decent rate which he seems to have quoted you so all that's left is making sure the work is to your satisfaction...

Let us know how you got along when the car is back and if appropriate who did the work

Cheers
