On 3rd gens, the rear muffler can be unbolted just infront of the rear axle. This will give you an idea of how loud your car would be with a straight thru bit of pipe replacing the muffler.
Resinators in the exhaust system aren't as easy to remove - would require cutting and re-welding.
Resinators in the intake system are easy to remove - they are just held on with spring clamps from memory. Really no point in removing them - but if you do, make sure you plug the holes securely, with something that isn't going to get sucked into the engine.

I replaced the air intake resonators in my 3rd Gen with McCormick spices bottle tops. This definitely changed the air intake growl. But this noise is now drowned out by the sound of the Redback exhaust.

i was thinking of un bolting it from the back or front of the CAT to see what it sounds like. and maybe make a temperory exhaust that comes out the side strait from the cat or y pipe and see what it's like.
Off road use only:D

Yeah just replace the rear muffler with straight pipe - that should be plenty.

yup - plenty noisy....
I recently had the rear muffler on my TJ wagon replaced with a Lukey straight-through muffler, and it's noisy enough!
Cheers,
Martin.

:doubt: I'm still tossing up whether or not to put an exhaust on the TL.
It's gonna be largely my wife's car when she has the baby, so I'll probably wanna keep it quiet. I absolutely LOVED the sound of it without air filter (should have posted vid...) :doubt:

If it's anything to you, when i ordered my exhaust i brought up the subject of noise and performance in line with standard economy etc with my exhaust guy and he supplied me with the red back center piece and a sonic rear piece and it gives the TF a stock turbo skyline sort of note when your up it but you would not notice the difference at normal every day driving. Very Very minimum drone when the motor labours on cruise.
Must say i an extreamly happy with it.
If your Sydney side and interested i will post his details, he is very good on price and takes the time to listen and suggest the best option for you. A+ service and price.

It's easy in the sense that you just undo 3 bolts and slip it off, but those bolts are on there damn tight. To make your life easier, give yourself heaps of room. Get a good jack that can lift the rear pretty high, get jack stands just in case, then use this extra room to undo them.

Never get under a car that is supported by a jack only (especially when trying to undo tight bolts...)! Always use axle stands and/or car ramps.

Of course. However, not everyone has a hoist in their back yard, or has access to one ;-(

Yeh that's why i said jack stands/axle stands or even chuck a couple of wheels under there, can never be too safe :).
