To add to an already excellent day I found my car egged at lunch today and it'd been baking in like 30 something degree heat all day, I guess it was done overnight... Egg hit back windscreen so there was no damage from the impact but egg went all over the roof, splashed a fair bit on bonnet and some specks on the boot.

It washed off pretty well with hot water and too much detergent + sponge, but I think it's damaged the clearcoat, can still see the outline. Basically means a full respray of bonnet, roof and boot to get it back to original condition? Boot already has scratches all over the top, bonnet has what looks like dust and a smily face stain underneath the paint (think it was resprayed before delivery), and now I've got a funky egg stain all over the roof.

I think I'll live with it, but out of interest how much would it cost to get all fixed? Probably close to 4 digits? Colour change costs like double?

Was just sayin to friends yesterday that newy was a pretty decent place to live and didnt have too many bogan ****s living here.. guess that's been disproved :doubt:

Not sure if it will help, but have ya tried using a clay bar on it, to clean off all the crap. My car had like bird poo stains on it, looked like they would never come off, until i used a clay bar, and gave the old swirl remover a go.

Before you go for a respray, try polishing out the egg marks (and try some cut'n'polish for a bit more bite).

Cheers,
Martin.

Might have a go with turps + water all over to get rid of tiny tar specks and then claybar it all at once in the easter break when I have some time.

I didn't think you could cut and polish clearcoat, or do you just have to be super careful not to take it all off? I'd probably get impatient or heavy handed and just root it all.

Cut'n'polish is too strong for clear coated cars and u run the risk of damaging the clear coat further and even to the point of clear coat failure. A normal polish will do fine or even a paint 'cleanser'

Claybar should remove the tar specks on it or some bug&tar remover will work too, dont put turps anywhere near ur car

i wouldnt bother with clay bar for the egg but it cant hurt, go get some megs swirl remover 2.0 or autoglym super resin polish (think thats what its called), foam applicating pad, microfibre cloth (clear coat safe one) and polish it. Dont do it in the heat, get the cars paint nice n cool and polish in shade that should get rid of it

Why do you even bother posting?

On topic. My mum's car got egged one day, on the bonnet... to this day no matter what we have tried to it, it still has an outline and such on there, good thing it's a white car I suppose. Good luck with the removal :(

Might even be worth giving a car detailing company a call and seeing what they recommend.

There'd have to be something for it!

The sooner you do something about it, the better the chance of the marks being removed completely.

Yeah, speed is the key.

I know with the TL, when I've been driving interstate, if I leave the bugs more than a couple days on the front bar, they're hard as hell to wipe off.

Try googling it to see what people recommend, but at any rate, don't stall too long.

Can only see marks on the back off the roof where it was really thick. The impact was on the window so it didnt crack/chip the paint or didnt panels which is an awesome plus. Like I said it baked in chronic heat for like 5 hours before I found it so it had a pretty good chance to eat into the clearcoat, and its left seedy marks all over the window seal... good excuse to replace that and stop the squeaking at the same time.

I'll get some turtle wax onto it on friday when I get home.

Feral bogan accross the road from me reversed into my wifes car with his Nissan Patrol and put his tow ball through her front bumper then denied it but claims its alright because I am from South Africa (which I am not)He believes no one should park in front of his house because his wife has cancer.
Then on Australia Day they egg my car and house.

Yeah, senseless **** like that really ****s me off!

I can understand if someone robs a bank or something -- at least you'll profit from your crime. But this is just irrational and unnecessary destruction of other people's property...

eggs have acid in them which eats into the paint work. depending how long it was on (long time in sun not good!) you MIGHT be able to get it out with some cutting compound. if your unsure how to do it, get a smash shop or detailer to do it for you. otherwise your up for new paint if it has eaten in too far. boo!sorry about the archaic drawing, leonardo i aint.
