For those who care - 380 sold 1,017 in February. Good to see the 380 is making consistant, although low sales.

Waiting on other models.

Motor industry has bumper month

March 5, 2007 - 12:28PM

Australia's vehicle industry has reported a bumper sales month in February with demand for new cars and trucks up by more than eight per cent.

In its latest VFACTS bulletin today, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) said 83,740 new vehicles were sold last month, an 8.1 per cent improvement on the 77,446 sold in February last year.

The result took the total market for 2007 to 160,676, a nine per cent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2006.

Toyota was the top selling company last month with 18,602 vehicles sold, ahead of Holden on 13,083 and Ford on 9,110.

Toyota was also well ahead on a year-to-date basis with 34,840 vehicles compared to 24,341 for Holden and 16,611 for Ford.

Go to the link for overviews.

As for the detailed breakdowns - they get emailed out to dealers etc, and some people eventually post the breakdowns online - usually fordforums or ls1

Good to see that the 380 is making over 1,000 sales a month consistantly (especially considering there current sales target is 1,000 units). Hopefully sales start to pick up once fleets start buying again.

Well so far 380 has improved on last year by 328 units, or an increase of almost 20% in overall sales. This is a promising start to the year, let's hope it continues...

and March has gotten off to a flyer with TJ Sports jumping on board! :D

Hopefully soon I'll be able to follow suit too...

**on a side note that new green colour that has us all intrigued is called "sublime". There will be 200 in a first batch of cars, all SX's with GT rims and s/roof.

The idea was initially to promote "green" energy via the LPG compatible engine (), but expect more. It's at the Melb motor show, dumped on 20s, looks teh sex.:P

That's great.

Just for interest, what is your rationale for a 380? It's a very competitive large car market and the oppostion has some extremely good cars. It's fascinating that TJ Sports and yourself have nominated the 380. Is it just the pricing/equipment factor?

mine was a toss up b/n the 380, VE -V and BFII XR6. in the end there wasnt much between them. so it came down to service, basically werribee mitsu have been honest with me and that counts for a lot. i do have some regrets abt not buying the XR6, but thats comming from the heart.

2. Corolla 3591

5. Camry 2530

7. Aurion 1817

interesting..... add the camry and the aurion together (they are basically the same car, one v6, one 4cyl) and you get 4347..... which slots it 750 ahead of the corolla into 2nd place. Has a camry ever been 2nd place on this list??? like... ever?

1197 off the ve..... not to many really, there only needs to be a swing of around 600 buyers for the top seller to finally change position!!! lol

looking at these figures, maybe a 4cyl would be a better move for the 380 over a supercharged version...

Yeah I must agree they are a smart looker. Those sales figures combined look great for the Camry/Aurion, and make 380's effort of 1,017 look a smidge meek. Disappointing actually, given it's a decrease on the very quiet Jan figure of 1,041.

Primarily the way they drive - awesome, just awesome. Smooth, quiet, effortless performance, and after taking a GT for a thrash out marysville way early last year my mind was made up - even after driving the surprisingly noisy VE Berlina. The SX/VRX/GT seats are best in class EASILY, like the ergonomic interior layout, and I do like the lines of the overall design on upper models.

I was originally looking at getting a KF/KH Rada last year, but my KS is still goin strong and later this year at the absolute latest I'll be in my very own 380. Just a matter of financing it properly.

Cool, they're the same reasons for me. I preferred the smaller class - Euro in particular, but after having driven a base 380 (not bad) and then a VRX, the driving experience sealed it.

I would love to be able to buy a new 380, though I'm worried that I will be stung again by Mitsubishi. I have a 2003 TL LS with 111000 Klms on it and on trade I can only get $8000 for it with my 18" rims, and $7000 without them (with standard alloys). When I asked why the trade value is so low, they said, "you can thank Mitsubishi for selling the Magnas to cheap to make way for the 380!".

Omg! A pathetic trade value for a 4 year old car. If I had a Camry, I would of got $12,000 for trade.

Well if I decide to go for the 380, Mitsubishi better look after their customers and not sting us again!

lol What makes you think you won't be stung again? The factors that caused the magna to have such a bad depreciation, are still evident as far as I am aware....

And any of the other big cars depreciate much better????

See what a 4 year old Falcon, Commodore, Avalon etc are worth......
Can't see any of the current model's being any better either. Factor in purchase price and Magna/380 aren't looking any worse then the competition!!!!
It's not only aussie big cars either.....look at the depreciation on luxury cars from BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc etc.....

Does anyone really buy car's as an investment:)

yeh, you have a good point. I was pretty much thinking of the Camry, as first mentioned by Magna-Mad.

Will be interesting to see how the Aurion fares in the depreciation stakes...

we've got a 2002 camry touring, new price of $37,000 and we have been offered $12,500 as a trade-in price for it at 3 different dealerships. in 5years its worth 1/3 of its new price. is that good? i dunno... lol i didnt buy the car thinking of what it would be worth in 10 years. if you want something with better resale value, buy a kia rio. my mum brought a 2004 model (auto - $16,990) and wanted to trade it in on the newer shape, they offered her $13,000 for it after 2 and a half years.

Sad thing with bigger cars, just don't hold their value.
I would say that $12,500 is very very good, well as good as can be expected in the current market, especially with how cheap new big cars are going.....but how many km's on it, as this can be a big deal breaker, and what price you paying for new car??
Smaller cars are more in demand with all the talk on fuel prices, hence the better resale.
Its funny when you factor in other running costs...insurance, servicing, parts etc, not to mention the extra safety, room, comfort of the big aussies, people are not getting as good a deal as they think by avoiding the big aussies just because of fuel prices:)
Though this has been covered many times before in the forum.

Mitsi's doesn't stockpile vehicles and then sell them off cheap just to clear the lot anymore. Thats one of the main reasons for the huge depreciation on Magnas. The residual on fleet 380's is higher than it ever was for Magnas. Macinary made sure of this when he took over from Uncle Tom. Only way to win private buyers....make sure they dont feel ripped off.

I've decided to hang onto my magna as it has to much negitive equity. Bought the car last June for $16990.00 and 9 months later, it's only worth 8 grand. Unless mitsubishi would offer a higher trade then anyone else due to their own stuff up. It's fair enough?

How many km's has your TL done? It's an LS as well I see. I'm sure you could get atleast around $12k if you were to sell it privately, which is still fairly cheap for a TL LS. However, if your km's are higher then thats why they would only offer you $8k... but seriously I thought they'd at-least offer you $10k!!!

Lets hope the series 3 upgrade is more then any of us hoped for.
I know they are struggling financially, but unless there is engine/safety upgrades to go with the rumoured good cosmetic ones, things could be getting bad at this point!!!
Has anyone heard a possible release date for series 3??

On another note I don't think Toyota would be over the moon with Aurion sales, even combined with Camry. They were hoping to crush Falcon and Commodore with the Aurion.
How good would it be to see 380 back in the top 10 where Magna/verada once went so well.
