Hey, just wondering if any of you 3.0L guys out there have fitted a POD Filter to ur car. Just wondering how it handles and where abouts you guys felt the difference. Are you guys happy with ur buy? Do any of yous have cold air induction? howd u do that? just any tips would be great. even average install prices. cheers

i've fitted the pod to my 3.0L and i'm very happy with it. lt really does rob you off the line but definately makes up for it in the mid to high's. but if you're gonna be doing more mods anyway, a simple chip like unichip will tune it back so you can get more power off the line. it's easy to install and takes probably 10-20 mins all up. just removed all the original airbox, made a metal bracket to hold it steady and just some ducting from the bumper with pipe i got from clark rubber.
cheers hope this helps

Pods are more beneficial overall when you have effective cold air induction set up to them..otherwise they are more likely to suck in the hot engine bay air than the panel filter which, even though it's crap, has some sort of CAI.
I'm steering clear of the pod filter and hooking up a CAI connection to the bottom of the filter box. I already have a K&N panel filter there.

sweet, cheers guys. Um so wats the chip all about? expensive?

Dont worry about the chip until you've done more mods.
Do your exhaust, intake rising rate fuel pressure regulator, possibly bigger throttle body..depends how far you want to go.
You can get a unichip which is limited in it's ability..and costs (I think) about 400 bucks to tune. Or you can get a better standalone system such as the Haltech E6K, whilst more money...is extremely flexible and offers a hell of a lot more than the unichip and it's fully adjustable, no 400 buck tuning when you want to change the fuel curve a little.

I sware by my pod, its fantastic and the sounds is to die for. For pods to be effective you really need some cold air up to them and / or a heat sheild of some form.
Im waiting for widow to reply to this one to challenge me  But pods are definatly a nice mod. Still no harm can be done with a replacement panel filter.

when i saw the title "pod filter" and the last reply was from blake i knew my name would be in the mumbo jumbo somewhere
its upto the owner of the car what they want , but now i have proof 125kw with a panel fitler , come on blake you should have more power then me with your pod ay
hehehe

In theory yes however as i have a 2.4 and you a 3.0 L there is some 35kw difference at the fly in power... oh well
Anyone have a dyno of their 3L?

naaa blake man those pods are fullsik they give you 100kw at the wheels remember

oh and don't forget by adding a cold air induction setup expect another 100 more

yer, remember, GBMs got 141hp ATW...

hmm i worked that out to be 106kw at the wheels that correct ?

you tell me, is that correct :?

141hp at the flywheel or front wheels ?
141 / 1.33 = 106
i think stock they have about 90ish kw's at the front wheels but i cant remember

at the wheels baby!!!...
hmmm.. so then 106kw eh.. interesting

yeah so you have gained about 15kw at the wheel's what mods have you done ?

hey? what are you benchmarking mine against? whats the stock car got at the wheels? my whole engine is stock cept' for the muffler...
hmmm.. must be the gold paint and GT wing that add the extra 15kw.. ;)
haha

heheh i think stock 3.0 manual is 90 ~96 kw at the wheels so you have gained anywhere from 8 to 15 kw. as they say replacing the rear muffler gives you around 10kw's now we know it might be true

ohhh...the old pod thread...
Well ive been thinking alot about these...With the rite set-up i go a pod over the panel anyday. But with stock cold air induction setup id stay with the panel. Only becuase the equiptment you get to fit the pod is dead ugly...cheap looking.
the pod dus increse in higher RPM, and sounds good...but for looks and price i go a panel...if you setup a nicer CAI

no offence GBM but i dont think u have gained 10-15 kw atw
Most dyno's vary greatly, even the same dyno on a diffeent day, so unless you took the dyno reading b4 you put on the muffler, then took a dyno reading after putting on the muffler and the difference was 15kw..... i dont think you have gained 10-15kws at the wheels..... i know u probably know this... but to everyone else who thinks they might achieve a 10kw atw increase just by changing the muffler i think it is really up to the dyno on the day, as too how much power increase you will get
Also , www.fastmagna.com has a real nice TE magna which is producing 124kw atw with only minor-bolt-on mods, i am also pretty sure they also did before and after dyno's for their mods too

Benny_TE no offence , but it is proven to give a 8~10kw at the fkywheel gain by changing a standard muffler to a good angle though one which i had before i got a full exhaust system. And i think Booyeah got his car dyneod on a dyno dynamics which conpensates for atmosphere conditions and there very accurate. I think its fairly set its over a 5kw gain atleast.

it was nice thinking :D:D
ne one know if a twin system will produce any more power? logically thinkin i would of though that would reduce power?

is the panel filter just like the stock set up but with a "flashy" "sports" filter?
i thinking of doing the same as blake, when i can be bothered buying a pod

No a panel filter uses's the great factory designed and built intake but gives it a better filter which to use plus you can just wash it and use it over and over , so take care of it and never have to replace it.
POD's are "flashy"

some people are more interested in Go then Show. But i must admit when i made the intake system for my old lancer it made the little 1.5 sound pretty impressive but it got pretty annoying

By placing a pod on your vehicle you don't replace to go.
In a nutshell
Panel Filter: Go
Pod Filter: Show and Go
Its dead simple =;

mmk, so your set-up aussie is changing the panel filter with a pod and having a tube going down the were those fog-lights are yess?
you keep the pod in the stock box and sealed up is it>?

Basically my setup is as follows, removed the whole induction setup up to the MAS sensor and rebuilt my own.
http://www.aussiemagna.com/images/podandbox.jpg
And then i run the cold air induction tubing to the fog light covers
http://www.aussiemagna.com/images/front1.jpg
This way my custom box acts as a heat sheild, and the cold air ducting gives it cold air the whole time. Its brilliant and works a charm on cold mornings and nights and on the freeway the car just wants to pull. It is the best thing i've done to my car so far.

I will do a tech article on that and a parabolic headlight conversion as soon as possible.
that setup was cheap as chips, probobly cost me $30 tops. Its made from fairly thin MDF wrapped in heater ducting tape for looks. It doesn't absorb heat as much as metal and easy to work with.
The best thing about it, works like a charm!

what do you do when its wet outside ? or if its about to rain ?
rn't u scared of getting water in your air intake ?

Water mist will go up the induction pipe but won't penetrate the filter as its oiled and the design of the box means it won't be blasted full on with water mist.
I've driven with it for nearly a full year and not a problem, just need to clean the filter here and there and apply more oil. Simple :D
