quite plain and simply, im more than happy with the top speed of 170 in my TS.

what i am more interested in is killing some common*****s and falCOONs at the lights (when i get my licence back of course)

so are there any mods out there that are going to give me what i need or do i need to steal the 5.7lt from dads calais? =P

hey Zach,

yeah I want the same thing from my TS

I'm assuming you have an auto box? Otherwise you simply wouldn't have too much to worry about torque with a manual :)

I think the most effective thing before moving away from a NA engine and having an autobox would be to add a stall convertor, which would definitely help at the lights. However set the stall speed too high and you will be doing burnouts on every intersection

But competing against a Gen III equiped (or similar) vehicle, well that wont be easy without major mods (and most likely moving away from a naturally aspirated engine) and $$$$$.

Please EXPLAIN what this stall convertor thingy is, i've never heard of such thing! ! ! ! sounds like a device that will constantly lock up your torque converter, is that right? ??? if so, where the hell can you get this?

This is my ride atm, ive been slightly focused on the ice so far but im looking at some under hood stuff next up... exhaust overhaul (full 2.5", extractors back), stage 2 (maybe) cams, throttle bodies (twin or quad?), the obvious port and polish etc.

Model: 1994 TS SE 2.6lt 5sp Manual.

Visual Mods:
15" 5-Spokers (they were on it when i bought it)
2x 12 Interior neons (blue, under dash)

Performance Mods:

ICE:
Kenwood Headunit (JVC mp3/dvd unit going in when i get it off layby)
Cerwin Vega Splits up Front
Kenwood 6x9's in the parcel shelf
4x Clarion 12" VNETS in an isobarik box under the parcel shelf
1250w Calibur Monoblock running the subs (soon to be two of these)

Well I am not the best person to explain this sort of thing, but it isn't exactly a lock up torque converter, the concept is similar to revving the ending at a higher speed while holding the brake, but is safer for your gearbox.

Have a read at http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2000/09/converter/index.shtml. THis should explain what it is and a bit more.

You'll find stall convertors a lot in modded vehicles equipped with V8's, ie. Falcon's and Commo's.

You should be able to get a stall converter from most auto transmission specialists i think, i havn't really looked into it yet.

A High Stall Torque Convertor is a torque convertor (fluid clutch that lives between the engine and auto box) which does not deliver much torque at all to the gearbox until a certain engine rpm is reached. This means that a driver can load up his engine to a degree with little wear on either engine or gearbox, as the torque convertor is still slipping.

If you are advanced in age you may recall when Toranas were still the thing to have. Many go-fast Torries would absolutely CRAWL down the local show off strip with engine screaming. A few more rpm and the Torrie would launch like a rocket. THAT is a high stall convertor at work.

My tr is particularily slow off the line so i was just wondering whether the Torque Converter would be benificial for my car? or is there some other mod which would should be bought in preference.
Also where could i purchase a Torque Converter from?

i think this Stall Converter isn't what you're after, it's for highly modded cars only, for drags and that, if you install it on your car, you'll find that if you don't always use the set stall converter RPM, you won't go anyway, but as soon as it hits that RPM it more or less locks up *viscos locking, and you shoot off, so from hardly any torque you jump straight into your torque band, i spose this will be bad for your tires as well. and if you don't use this RPM to take off, you'll just end up using a lot more fuel as it is slipping at the torque converter.

i think other mods will be better

well whoever has an auto box has a torque convertor already :)

However if u want to change the stall speed, it either requires mods to your existing torque convertor or a new one (im not sure, ive never done this before).

Whether its beneficial or not, it depends on the usage and how it was configured. As I said earlier in the thread, if the stall speed is set too high, you'd have to be very careful launching the car at an intersection so you dont spin the wheels (and would be very frustrating if the coppers are next to ya!).

But if its set too low, then its utterly useless.

I am not the expert in this one though. I just know this exists because of friends who are into real drag racing.

Not only that, fuel consumption would be massive...
