Hi people,

I got me brakes done about 3 months ago. Brand new discs and brand new pads. All genuine Mitsubishi parts. Now 3 months later the brakes already shudder. Is this a common thing? I dont drive hardcore all the time and only recently its happening. I know its going to get worse u can just tell. Is there any way to fix this all? Like replacing the whole disc and pads to a better quality stuff? I dotn want to waste my money by putting the the same discs and pads again and then 3 months down the track doen the same thing......

brake shudder usually mean warped discs due to brakes overheating. Do you do alot of long braking, i mean using your brakes for a long time, just not braking hard, say down a hill? May also means your calipers are "hanging up" and not fully releasing, causing the heat buildup. Could be many things.

To fix, you get your discs "machined" at most brake joints, i forget how much it is, 20 - 30 per disk? Alot of people here may suggest some aftermarket discs will help, having better cooling, like slotted rotors, but i dont know.

Well, when i look at the plastic surrounds around the front wheel arches, there is no slot there from the front. Its fully partioned off. So i got the old stanley knife and cut a slot there so there is some air flow. This was after the car was fixed. Maybe thatas what the problem was.

Did you clean and and lube the caliper pins when you did the job, this is a very common cause for this sort of thing

The magna rotors standard mitsubishi are renowned for warping under anything other than normal braking and even then sometimes.

The best thing I can suggest is replacing stock mitusbishi with EBC rotors and eitehr bendix Premium or EBC Kevlar brake pads whcih will not only improve braking but stop the dreaded warpage

Have a read of this site.

A while ago I fitted DBA slotted rotors and everything was fine. two months
later I had the tyres balanced and rotated and guess what, the brakes
started to shudder under heavy braking, especially coming down a hill. I
did not go through any puddle etc, was very careful with it. Went back to
the tyre place and complained to them about it. They rebalanced the fronts
and refitted the wheels making sure each nut was torqued the same
amount and guess what, the shudder was gone.

The DBA slotted rotors costed me just over $200 for the front pair. I use
Lucas pads which is excellent albeit dusty as can be seen in my sig. Can't
remember how much they cost though.
