yeh so anyways im pretty sure i blew a sub, or at least i broke it..
i have 2x 15 inch earthquakes (i think thier like 600wrms?) but i have them running off pioneer 2 channel amp that puts out 760w? anyways noticed their wasnt as much bass and so got out and had a look and only one sub is pumping! i checked the connection to the subs to make sure that they hadnt fallen out so that was all fine, and then i switched the wires over so that i could figure out if it was the amp or the sub. well when i switched them around the one which worked before, still worked and yadda..
i doubt that i have blowen a sub cos their pretty big powerful things and i dont have that much power running from my amp..
so any ideas? how would i tell if my sub was blowen? it looks fine but should i take it out and have a look?
thanks.

Well I was gonna suggest that it's the wiring, but if you switched it over and it still didnt work, you must have torn one of the wires inside the sub itself -- bye bye bass... :doubt:

ehhhhh i still got one.. but its only half the bass! haha
anyway it can be fixed?

depends what is wrong with it exactly... if its a burnt coil.... good luck... if its just broken wire, yer can be fixed...
Does it smell?

well it dont smell now, although ive had a loss of bass for a few days, and only just checked it.. so dunno if it should still smell now, but it dont

If it was burnt u would still smell it... lol
I fried a 10" sub a year ago, the sub has been torn apart since then and you can still smell it on the frame... yes the frame lol

I had a (very expensive) Alpine amp a few years back, and it had internal protection in it that if you tried to put more bass into the subs than they could handle, it would turn off altogether. I have NO idea how it worked, but I loved it.
Of course, then I gave it to my little brother who wired ground to power and fried the whole ****en thing...

yehboth my amps do that too, although thats just if the amps are geting over loaded and putting out too much power they will turn off untill they can handle the power again..

Tinsel lead could be Damaged?

Have you tried swapping the polarity of the wires around. Ok so you have 1 sub that works. Leave that channel alone, and switch the + and the - around on the other channel. Might work, might not, worth a try.

i have tried the other channel, or do you mean the bits on the sub? like the wire bits thier and change the positive and neg around?

Remember, you can still blow a sub if its underpowered.. It all depends on how the current is being transferred to the sub. If there is any form of clipping, then you could have damaged the voice coil..
Do you have any "loud" button or "bass boost" settings on your headunit? I blew a sub a while back just because my head unit was clipping the signal at high volume. Most head units dont send a clean signal at more than 75% max volume, and things like bass boost and loud settings can decrease this dramatically.
Amps can also clip signals when the gain is set too high. Even though it may be underpowering the sub (in terms of RMS), when the gains are too high it can distort the signal and damage the speaker.
Could this be the culprit in this case?
where you connect the cables to the sub, there shound be some shiny metal braided wires that run from there, into the sub itself, check to see if they are damaged.
also push down on the center of the cone, if you hear scraping, you could have damaged the coil bobbin or coil itself

okay ive checked the wires on the connection and their fine, but yeh misti is the only thing thing that i think could make sense..
i dont have a bass boost, and my sub control is normally at 0, although i guess that i listin to alot of punk that i guess does get distored, although thier was no clipping comming from the subs.. i did have a few clipping coming from the speakers inside, although the subs kept on going when that happened.. i dunno i think il pull the sub out check that all the connections in the box are still up and if it is take it to auto bahn (or seggestions?) and see what they think of it?

swapping polarity will do nothing they will work with the polarity either way. Its either tinsel lead, blown sub or connection in the box that is broken.
Its not an amp or amp wiring problem as you had the same issue when u swapped the leads therefore has to be a problem between the subbox terminals and the sub terminals or the sub terminals and the voice coil or a fried sub.
I suspect it is something simple although misty is on the money with small amps can still fry subs if you drive them to clipping.
Just undo the suspect sub and check the wiring.

thanks timmy thats what i plan on doing tomorrow. will pull the sub out double check it, and if i cant find anything dodgey in the box, might swap the whole subs over so i can figure out if its the terminal.. and yeh if it dont work then, then im in the market for a new sub...
i dont know how people can live with just one subb? haha

On my 4ch (though it is BOSS lol), if i reverse the polarity on one sub, it doesn't work. If i swap it back around, it works again. Don't know why, but it does .

hey dude dont know if its too late to post a comment, pull out ur sub and smell it.
im serious too cos i blew my SW series eclipse sub and it was obvious that it was blown becoz i smelt the burnt coil, so that was sad news. anyways hope u find out the problem

soooo stumped..
okay pulled sub out today, no burning smell, all conections inside the sub box are find, and the cone and everything on the sub are good. no idea, no one got any either?
looks like autobarn can hopefully find it and its not expensive..

get a multimeter and see the resistance across the terminals/voice coils.

haha yeh i dunno how to do that. thanks though
