Hey, I have a 94 TR Executive. I was wandering whether others have removed the sound deadener from under the bonnet. Are there any advantages/disadvantages to this?

Cheers
Josh

its function is what it is called.
why would Mitsubishi invest in adding it if was going to do nothing

I would say all disadvantage, as someone said, why would Mitsu install one at about a retail cost of $75 if it wasn't needed.
There is insulation inside similar to pink batts you put in your house roof so I would think it is sound deadening and heat insulation.
Maybe the heat might cause paint peeling off the hood

exactly right, one of my mates had his skyline resprayed and so this deadning was removed so the bonnet could be sprayed. They didn't put it back on afterwards and within 3 days all the paint on his bonnet was all bubbled up from the heat!

I woulodn't take it off my car!

If you want to hear more engine noise and a possibility of the paint getting damaged by excessive heat remove it. If not leave it alone.
Definetley leave it on the vehicle.

i have had 2 brand new car that didnt have one as original fitment at all

and both had quiet engines in the cabbin due to the firewall having the sound deadening

i have also has a few old cars without aswell as they were never fitted in them days, and no paint ever peeled, and my valiant ran really hot with the 318 in there

i say just leave it as it is man

I think you boys suggesting it is to do with insulating the paint from heat damage have hit the nail on the heasd. My last car was a trick TP wagon. One of the things I did to it early on was fit extractors. Two weeks later the black cloth covering on the soundpad was hanging off right over where the extractors were. Heat damage. I bought a new one and then covered it in heatproof foil and that solved the problem. But in the 4 cylinder gen 1 cars it was definitely about preventing heat damage to bonnet paint. So leave it on...
