yeah they are all dodgy, rubber comes off....

My solution: Upgrade to a mongoose M80s alarm. One added benefit is... an alarm :)

my original remotes lasted 5 years for my TJ. didnt buy new ones just put new batteries in the old ones. after that they didnt last long. my mate bought a new one for his TE and it only lasted a year. neither new battery or new remote seems to last. my brother has the same problem with his TJ. we all gave up and dont bother with the remote anymore. What gives? anyone got any ideas?

My original one from my KE still works, only replaced it because I snapped the plastic bit where the keyring clips onto it.

Bought a replacement one for it from Mitsu bout 2 years back, still working fine.

If your genuine mitsubishi remote fails within 12 months, and you have the invoice, then it's a warranty issue.
I wouldn't bother trying to claim one if it's been abused or has obvious signs of water entry, damage, etc!
How can you possibly have so many bad remotes?? Do you swim with them in your pocket??

Trust him!!!! Mine lasted exactly over a year, what a piece of ****! This is in fact the worse feature of my whole car. just add up the amount of remotes you buying.

You may find that you have to reprogram them every so often. I've had them lose sync for no apparent reason, but a quick reprogram and they're all good again.

That happened to me once my remote died, i took it to mitsu on the coast here and they sold me a new one for $65 then told me all it was is it needed to be reprogrammed

if you repeatedly turn the car to on and off 3 times i think it is that then resets the remote which u then have to hold the green button or something to sync it to the car.

if you just turn the car on and off 3 times "not the ignition only to ON" then not do anything with your remote it just loses sync because no remote was used to sync

hope that's helpfull so people with "broken remotes" take them get them to resync them and give it a try!

I'm still on the original remote which I got new with my car 4 years ago. I still have a brand spankers as spare yet to use. So they aren't all dodgy. Just some are. :)

Im still using the original remote for the 98TF.

The 3 rubber bits for the lock / unlock & boot are shredded but the thing still works :D

On another note, do these things have replaceable batteries?

You can replace the battery I'm pretty sure. The issue however is getting the remote open without breaking it. Last 1 I tried to open, I ended up hitting with a hammer. ****ED everything.

You might be right but I do not think these remotes have been designed to open at all.

Anyone know if you can get replacement rubber for these remotes ? Mine have both got splits in the rubber which lets crud into the electronics which stops it working. Good clean out, it works again for a while.

You won't be able to get new buttons unless they have a broken old remote at the parts desk and you can be bothered to change the rubbers yourself. Otherwise for ~$70 you can have a new one and not have to worry about it for at least couple of years.

I've found that smashing up an old computer keyboard and using the rubber gromet under the keys kinda does a half decent job and saves you having to dig your finger in the remote.

That's assuming you're talking about the single button remote, I think there's a dude on ebay that sells buttons for the 3 button one but he doesn't do the single buttons.

Did NZ imports get a different remote , my KE came with the 3 button remote, has a screw to take it apart. I got lucky and found a new one in the back of a JDM Diamante at the pickapart. the KE is a pain tho, you have to earth a connecter on the OBD plug to program it, none told me for awhile and i spent over an hour trying the switch on-off way.

You would have the 3 button remote then yeah? (Green, Red and Grey buttons). Buy a faulty remote off eBay and swap the rubber. Problem solved :)

There were 4 different remotes

The TE had a single bitton remote only where as the KE had a 3 button remote (different to the later ones)

The TF had a 3 button remote with 3 grey buttons where as the KF xi had a remote similar to the KE XI

Then the TH onwards went to the green and red button units, these although have their issues with the solder on the board they are easy to repair BUT will not wpork on TE or TF

E-bay have listings for a few of the remote rubbers being sold individually, mainly the TF ones I think from memory
