View Full Version : Rough idle, after car comes back from panel beaters.

My VRX was unlucky enough to need some repair to the rear bumper and boot.
I am thinking that they must disconnect the battery at some stage in the repair, to ensure they don't short something out while repairing, welding etc.
Could they have done it incorrectly? So that my car runs bad? Upset the ECU or other component?
Anyone with similar experiences?

probably wasn't touched when the repairs were done but check to see if your air flow metre is plugged in still, may have been bumped pr somthing.
That could explain the rough ideling.

Yeh battery.
Also dont be surprised if they gave it a good thrashing too.
Absolutely the battery.....
When my car came back the setup mode for the trip computer was showing, and some mullet headed tool had programmed MMM into my stereo and set sub volume and bass to max and was so ****ing loud and distorted when I drove off and turned the unit on.....thanx for thrashing my stereo fellas.
But yes, rough idle and so on will happen until the ECU learns the correct mixture on idle. Additionally, if they are like the incompetent tools slash ****wits slash neanderthals that did my car, the car will also die a few days later due to terminals not being screwed on properly and corrosion fouling the contact.
But lets hope you don't have to take the car back 3 times for them to do the job right...
Oh yeah...I did say it was the battery being disconnected and computer relearning right?

do you know why?
is it because of possible accidental airbag deply or something?
i just got mine back and i was sus coz i though they might have 'increased' the avg fuel consumption.

It just happens whenever the battery's disconnected. The few times I've had my battery disconnected to fiddle with my stereo, the car runs like crap for a while afterwards.
I believe you can get a dealer to fix it for you (what they do I'm not entirely sure), or the problem will go away after a little while.
My idle in particular was particularly shocking after disconnecting the battery. Fluctuated pretty badly, and it even stalled on me once.
Disconnect your battery for a bit then reconnect it start it up and let it idle for 10-15mins.:D
