In reality they're only worth about $4500 but because they 'look' fair new dealers and private sellers generally try to get as much as they can for'em.
Mines for sale
'97 TF V6 Manual
169,xxxkm
10 months rego
Cons: Needs new front drivers fender & indicator
Needs injectors serviced.
Other than that it fine diddly fine. $3500

No im in NSW but on request I have plans for a giant slingshot I intend to build in my back yard, if my calculations are correct I may be able to fling 1300kg of Japanese plastic and metal across australia. If I get the angle, speed and right winds I reckon I could land this puppy just outside of Perth.
Ofcourse after that a dinted fender will be the least of your probs :D

to be honest, asking wat they cost is an open ended question. its a buyers market, just find a car u think is ok, and ask if the price is reasonable :) best as well to wait for a manual, but that can take time! (seems theres not really any out there in perth online)
just hunt around on www.carsales.com.au, www.autotrader.com.au, and buy the quokka and the sunday times, and u'll find tons and tons of magnas :)
good luck!

Yeah man ..... go for a manual. They cost more as you would expect with most cars but they are so worth the little extra. Private sales tend to be better value for money but then I suppose you don't get a warranty without a dealer. Still though, search like crazy and you will be surprised at what you can find. Just narrow your search down with things like mileage / manual / auto / V6 / 4 CYL / Magna / Verada and obviously your budget too. It all depends on exactly what you want. I still look for bargains now and I am addicted to my car after 18 months and would'nt sell it right now anyways.:) Good luck

I'de say for $8000 you can get a nice 3rd gen.
Pamper yourself and ignore the Executive go for an Altera or one of the "special" models with all the nice stuff Elec Windows, Cruise, Central Locking, ect ect. Also go for the 3.5ltr with the least kms, but be prepared to spend $500-$1000 when you get the Belts done if they havent been done.
I have a 99 Altera Wagon with 190,000 and was offered $4000 as a trade in. 3rd gens are not holding their price, have you looked into buying interstate and getting it shipped over?

picked up my 1996 TE magna advance manual V6 for $4000 but turns out i was diddled, had a fuel leak. even so its a beaut car, 180,000km, sports kit, lowered, alloys, full tint, needs a decent cut and polish though as the paint's looking a bit **** and theres a dent in the right hand side rear door.
had i got it for $3500 i wouldve been stoked even with the fuel leak but $4000 was too much IMO. but it was manual, V6 and had all the factory mods done to it, i had to have it.

I sold my December 1996 TE Altera - lowered, full service history, in excellent condition for $5500 back in August. 189 000 km on the clock.
It was sad.

Magna's/ Verada's have come down alot in the last year. I have mine for sale for around 12K.. At the end of the day anything you buy is only worth what your willing to pay for it.
