Hi all, i'm going to change the coolant on my TJ & TF this weekend...
question though...
is it better to get the mitsubishi coolant, or just get some techtolly (or whatever it's called)
and is the mitsubishi coolant premixed or do i have to mix it up?
anyone have any ideas on what the mits coolant cost?
thanks in advance

Do not buy the Nulon premix, its only 33%.
If you love your car and want to do the job right, buy the Nulon Concentrate
and mix it yourself 50:50 (=50%) which will last you 3yrs peace of mind.

Someone mentioned the Mitsu Diamond coolant is same as Castrol anyways...

i've not cleaned the radiator since i bought the car 6 1/2yrs ago!!.. (don't tell me, it's very very bad), so a good clean is in order

If the existing coolant is still green and no rusty colour in it,
I generally don't bother with using a flushing agent... unless you are planning
on opening up every drain hole to empty every last ounce of water in the system.
(i hate worrying about the flushing stuff remaining in there afterwards)

Drain and refill radiator with clean water several times until it comes out clean,
then just refill the drained radiator with concentrate coolant.
It usually takes about 4L in the radiator which will mix with the 5L water in the block.

Tip the rest of the concentrate into the overflow bottle (after giving that a scrub).

And check coolant levels after every heatcycle for next day or 3. :)

anyone have any ideas on what the mits coolant cost?Mits coolant is a concentrate, I've always used this one. I think it's about $12-15 for one litre, which they say to mix at ~30%. Just get some demineralised water, ~$2 for 2litres.

I've only ever had to top up a few 100ml at a time though, due to a weaping water pump. Last major service the mechanic I took it too was preparing to redo the whole coolant, and found that it was all still in very good condition, so didn't have to replace the coolant. Pump was replaced, so haven't really had to worry about adding coolant since...

jeez, i'm such a lazy bugger..
finally got around to flushing the coolant on the weekend. (on my wife's TJ)..
i'm quite amazed that after 5 1/2 years of not changing the coolant, it's still clear and clean, no rust or gunk anywhere.. drained her twice and the water was clean as...
but the coolant in there was not quite as green as the nulon concentrate that i replaced it with (50% mix), maybe it faded over time???..
anyways, i feel alot better now, will leave it for another 6 years before i change it again!! !hahahahahah.. nah, have made a point to change it every 2 years now
now... got to get around to my fuel filter...!!

Two cars, two brand new filters rattling in sparetyre well awaiting replacement
'cos I can't get the nut-against-nut union joint off... too scared to bend the fuel line.

far as i know mitsu coolant is 33% coolant rest water

best not to mix coolants as this causes problems
i would flush the system with clean water and refill with mitsu coolant a lot of the after market stuff is just crap.

According to “Workshop manual" both TH & TJ should be like this:

Quantity: 9,5L
Standard value: 30-50 % concentration range.
“Caution-If concentration of the coolant is below 30%, the anti-corrosion property will be adversely affected…
If the concentration is above 50%, both anti-freezing and the engine cooling properties will decrease, affecting engine adversely.
Also is a table with numbers...30% concentrate is for “minimum operating temp”. -(minus)16 deg., 40% -24 deg and 50% concentrate -37 deg.

Anyway i mixed 4L (out of 5L) of "Nulon" concentrate what should be enough for 5 years or250K km.

50% coolant also increases the BOILING point to like 130degC or something,
which is more important than worrying about the freezing point.

I did once 50-50 mix (valvoline), then car was running cold.

You better getting the Mitsubishi Coolant.

Their coolant has been designed and tested for corrosian effects on all Mitsubishi.

Peace of mind as well.

It is not that expensive either.
