OK, heres the problem: When I start my TR 4 banger all is normal, she drives fine. After about 5 minutes it spews most of the contents of the radiator out onto the ground through the radiator overflow bottle, last night I was forced to leave my car a few ks from my house in hostile territory.
Now i did a search and found that likely problems were overflow bottle cap or radiator cap. So I went and bought both of these today and replaced both, I then filled my radiator up and got going.
I managed to get home and the temp guage was fine with no water flowing freely from its bowels, this happened last night on my first attempt to refill the radiator so I decided to keep it running for a few minutes while sitting outside my house. Sure enough the temp gauge started climbing and the radiator dropped it's guts in the gutter.
My old man seems to think that the most likely cause of this is the head gasket, this would explain my cars thirst for oil and the white smoke on startup (i think white meant water). Anyone else have any advice.

EDIT: Also, anyone know how much to get the head gasket replaced.

Fans and thermostat works. I took the cap off after 10 seconds of running yesterday and it shot COLD water at me, which is making me think head gasket.....as in gas pressure pushing the water out.

Any milky colour under the oil cap? There would also be a loss of engine performance if the head gasket is blown. I would not be driving it too far, in case you cook the engine.

It got towed to dads business mechanic at about 430ish today so we'll soon find out. One of dads employees also had a look at the car (a semi-mechanic car nut) and said its either the radiator or head gasket so well just have to wait and find out. Hopefuly the solution dun break the bank....i was kinda hoping to pay the rest of what i owe off, plus rego is due in a month.

Please let us know of the outcome of this... My TR does the exact same at the moment, I just keep topping it up, pretty sad that it uses $30 worth of Nulon top up every two weeks.
