Hi all.
Just a quick question - I've been doing a littel reading up but can not put my finger on it.
I have a 5 speed Tiptronic TJ Sports, and if Im cruising in "D" - and I go to overtake someone and put my foot down, the car just revs, and doesnt engage the lower gear for around 2-3 seconds...
Im thinking of flushing the transmission with genuine Mitsubishi ATF...
Any suggestions??
Thanks.

Do you gear down using your tippy? I think the whole idea of having it there is to use it

He's probably lazy like me lol. D is just easier!
I think you need to see someone lol. should be instant mine is!
(mines 4sp tippy but don't think that should make any diff)

Just because its there doesn't mean you have to use it

Hhmmmm - yeah I might need to...
It doesnt always do it - only sometimes, but its giving me the ****s!

No - you dont need to use it.
Im too lazy to think what way is up/down.
So I just stick it in D and drive :nutkick:

My old VN used to think about it for a couple of seconds, nothing was wrong with the box but turned out the TPS was wacko... just food for thought!
um? I don't think i've ever been in a car when you put your foot down and it instantly drops a gear. Always takes a second or so at least for the petrol to get through??

Yeah I know that mate. Obviously its not instantaneous.
But what Im talking about is a very noticable gap - WHERE THE ENGINE REVS as though it is in Neutral...

I had something similar for a while, it was when the Car was being driven by Garry and Me quite often. It's not so bad now that it's 80% me driving it.

lol fair enough then haha. I gear up and down with my non-tippy auto, makes me feel like I'm driving a real car haha.

How do you take off normally? I tend to lunge off the line and my gearbox shifts down if I give it more than a small tap. If you drive it softly most of the time, the ECU sets itself too soft. Give it a little stick every-so-often and it should be a little better.

I think you are all missing the point. He says that the engine feels like its in neutral for a few seconds. He isn't questioning the delay of the gearbox shifting down.
Mate, i would suggest a fluid flush and yes, us the mitsubishi tranny oil. If that doesn't fix it, then i would say, get the gearbox checked.
Sounds liek a slipping gearbox to me. I had that too after about 150,000km of driving. Did oil changes but hasn't really made any difference. So i converted to manual.
Later on i was told by the mechanic, that it was just a sensor of some kind on the auto gearbox that got wet a while back and required replacing. Apparently.....
hmm. if its slipping..solenoid maybe? Pretty affordable.

mine has done this on a few occasions, only when i been driving her hard though :S
I think it might be the brain accidentally just switching to neutral thinking you want control over the gears? :S
I got no clue as to what the problem could be, however tiptronic is there for a reason :D.

Checked the ATF level? A low ATF level can make autos behave strangely.

I havent been thrashing it so no opportunity to see if it "slips". I'll let you all know how it all went though...

Ignore them  , and change the trans fluid, give it a good flush too. My Ralliart does the same thing when the trans fluid has had enough, its seems to be the usual response when the fluid is stuffed in the 5speed autos. If you drive it hard, a trans cooler would be a good idea as well, and changing the trans fluid every 30,000kms, not 50,000kms.
