Hello all,

I've been lurking here for a while, while working on a TN and a TP.
In the process I've found some interesting reading and much useful information, and decided it was time to join, especially as I now need to post this request.

I have a TM body (GLX) with a TN engine (EFI, Manual), and am in the midst of replacing the entire interior with parts from a TP (SE) - Dash, console, carpet, power mirrors, door trim, lighting, seats etc.

The biggest issue in all this is the electricals, for which I only have the Gregory's TN manual wiring diagrams, and they are not great. I still have a number of wires yet to be identified at the points where I'm joining the TN and TP looms, and would really like to get hold of some TP wiring diagrams.

I've seen a number of requests for these in the forums, which all seem to have been fullfilled via PMs. Could those senders please do the same for me? (or is there some repository that I missed, where I can download from?)

If possible I would like a variety to help out where details are sketchy (Gregorys, Haynes & factory)

Thanks in advance for anything you can send,
Rob

plenty of members in here with electrical info for the TN and TP

see what the rest say

have been told not to post wiring diagramms due to copywrites

the plug connections most are interchangeable

to clarify
someone did an EFI conversion to the TM with a TN engine to your car

now its a TM EFI with manual gearbox and adding TP executive accessories

Is this a sedan ?

and you are using a donor car for parts from a TP (SE) - Dash, console, carpet, power mirrors, door trim, lighting, seats etc. to fit into this TM

ok TM dash and console are different
you have to swap the whole front dash and instument panel if you want it to look like a TP
power mirrors needs the wiring loom /switches and wires run to the doors all connectors match
door trim no problem
seats no problem
carpet no problem

no such thing as EFI TM.

I got scans of the TP wiring diagrams. get me on msn.

I think Ray is aware of that, actually... ;-)

Thanks magna buff,

to clarify

Yes, me and a friend

now its a TM EFI with manual gearbox and adding TP executive accessories
Yes, (but SE accessories)

Is this a sedan ?
Yes

Yes

Thanks BCX7,

I don't know anything about msn, but will try to find out and contact you.

To further clarify, and since I'm new here, I'll give the history of these things. A long rave, but may be of interest to some... (with hindsight, this story would be different!)

I had a a TN manual EFI from 2 years old (bought in 1990), which was fine for a long time. The only parts replaced in a decade were alternator, water pump and radiator.

A few years ago my brother had a TM carby auto that blew the head gasket. He bought another car and he said I could have the TM if I wanted it. I told a mechanic friend, who wanted the auto trans, and since my TN had collected a few scratches and dents, I wanted the TM's body, as it was in better nick.

To move the TN engine into the TM body took 3.5 days at my friend's workshop. Besides the engine, other issues were:-
Drill holes in the firewall for the clutch, (I think the gearshift cable holes were already there),
Swap the exhaust system,
Fuel tank (seemed the easiest way to move the EFI fuel pump),
Looms from the engine and dash.
Not wanting to pull out anymore stuff, I cut the looms at the base of the driver's door and spliced the two bundles together there.

All was fine for another few years until the alternator lamp started coming on sometimes, and the lights going very bright. I let this go for quite a while, not realizing how bad this was.
I found out how bad a couple of months ago while overtaking on the highway when the entire electrical system blew out all at once. The main fusible link had evaporated, and I determined that the ECU was gone also. (turns out the alternator was cooked as well)

This was not far from my brother's place, so we towed it there and left it for a week while I sought a new ECU and alternator. The wreckers wanted $175 for a warrantied ECU, so kept I looking elsewhere, and in the trading post I found a dealer that wanted only $250 for a whole car (TP manual EFI SE), which was quite driveable, so I bought it. Turns out the TP interior was in excellent condition, and I liked the extra features of the SE variant, so I decided to fix it up, get it registered and junk the TM.

This cheap car started getting expensive when I found the radiator wouldn't fill with the engine running. Damn, A blown head gasket! Taking the head off, found it was cracked and warped (had also been welded previously). Spent two hours in the hot sun extracting a new head and other parts at the wreckers, only to find out later that it also had cracks. Another session at the wreckers (only 30 minutes this time) and I had finally had a good head. Got it cleaned up and surfaced, and installed it.

Meanwhile, I was getting around in the TM using the TP's ECU and alternator. This alternator was also a bit dodgy, so just for fun, I decided to make my own regulator. (I'm good with electronics, and don't like little black boxes with unknown innards that I can't fix myself). I also bought another alternator for the TP, and will one day make a regulator for that too.

After a bit more work, the TP was ready to go for a roadworthy, but all the local testers were busy, and being unregistered would be a problem since they can't/won't road test it that way. I sat back and looked at the big picture, financially. I'd have to fork out for:-
Unregisted vehicle permit
Roadworthy (plus any repairs required)
Vicroads inspection and appointement fees
Number plates
Rego and stamp duties.

This $250 car had already cost me too much, and here I was about to spend several hundred more to register it, when I already had a registered car sitting in the driveway. The cost of an unregistered vehicle permit was the last straw, so I had yet another change of plan. The TM was registered, but the TP/SE had a much nicer interior, so I decided to move the TP insides accross. This would cost very little, and I could do it at my leisure. I'd also have a nice spare engine.

Which brings me to the present. The seats, dash, console and carpet are swapped over, and all essential wiring sorted out. Radio and speakers are done also, but there are still a few items left. With hindsight, I should probably have swapped the the wiring in its entirety, (both dash looms, switch cluster and all), but initially I thought I could avoid having to remove the dash to get the console swapped, and only used the part of the TP loom that runs from the power mirrors to the parcel shelf.

Trouble is, the TP wiring uses different colours (and I'm colour blind to boot), and there's some strange behaviour with the ashtray and cig lighter lamps that don't make sense looking at the TN wiring diagram. As I've kept the TM switch cluster, there are incompatible connectors for the aircon, so I'm expecting problems when I try to join those wires up as well.

Thinking about it as I write all this stuff, it really would have been better to swap the lot, but I'm 80% there now, and would prefer not to backtrack if a TP wiring diagram can get me over the line.

Sorry for the long rant, but I'm introducing myself here as well.

Rob
