hey guys, im after some more horse power. obviously not too keen on forking out more copious amounts of dosh so im wondering if theres anything else low budget that can give me an increase.
heres whats done already:
Exhaust & Xtractors, CAI - K&N, new timing chains, running on high octane.
im thinking high flow cat or TB but not going forced induction.
btw im a 4 cyl if u havent guessed already lol

cheers big 4

you've already done the extractors, why not get a cat back system? If not for the 3-4kW you'll gain, it'll give it a nice rumble :)

$300+ for a nice rumble? not exactly a good spend. thanx tho.
Sports mentioned cam regrind. sounds like the way to go. anyone know of decent Cam shops around the place? (North Brisbane)

And I bet extractors gave you whopping power increases for the price too.

There isn't a cheap, quick performance part available for the Astron II, you must spend copious amounts of money for decent gains on your engine, that's the truth right there. What you can do is something like an ECU upgrade, port and polish, iridium plugs, full exhaust system (extractors, 2.5inch mandrel, high flow cat, straight through muffler) lower weight alloy wheels, weight reduction to body, panels etc (illegal in most cases)

If you want power, drop in a 6G72... or just buy a new car, the Astron isn't exactly a performance orientated motor, nor does it really appreciate any NA mods. Boost on the other hand, it guzzles up like a... well, insert sexual innuendo here.

:stoopid:

My extractors gave alright gain for price ($80 :D ) lol.

Best bet, is probably (if you can DIY) port match your inlet runners to the head; change intake piping (pre TB); and yeh, either a cam grind or an ECU remap.

Astron will benefeit from any of those mods.

save your money and buy a new car?
:P
the gains your gonna get on a NA arnt going to be amazing, or cost affective, especially in a 4cyl, unless you do a turbo kit or SC, then thats another approx 5k into the car which you will never get back...

hmmm.... what i would do differently....

change the 2.6 crank for that from a 2.0 astron. 12:1 compression and twin standard t/bodies. that will give a an engine makin 150+ atw and revs till 8krpm quite happily.

seriously tho if i had my time again i wouldnt spend so much on this engine unless planning to turbo. im pretty much now forced to cheaply turbo mine to make it a cost effective exercise and hopefully produce a 14 sec 4cyl magna

seeing as you already have bit of intake and exhaust the next best thing would be gen1 cam regrind with either gen1 rocker system or sigma manual rockers all would easily come under $200 and would see some fair gain
if you use the roller system you have now it will cost way to much, in fact i don't think you'll even be able to regrind yours at all

high flow cat or bigger throttle body will do next to nothing compared to a mild cam
